Ben E. King was an R&B singer, probably best known for the song "Stand by Me."

BB King was a blues singer and songwriter but was best known for his guitar playing. The man was incredible on the guitar. He influenced generations of guitar players from multiple genres. BB stood for "Blues Boy" His guitar was named Lucille. Here's the story of how he named her.

Quote:
I used to play a place in Arkansas called Twist, Ark., and they used to have a little nightclub there that we played quite often. When we didn't have any other place to play, we were always welcome to play there. Well, it used to get quite cold in Twist, and they used to take something look like a big garbage pail and set it in the middle of the floor, half-fill it with kerosene. They would light that fuel, and that's what we used for heat. And generally, the people would dance around it, you know, never disturb this container. But this particular night, two guys start to fight and then one of them knocked the other one over on this container, and when they did, it spilled on the floor. Now it was already burning, so when it spilled, it looked like a river of fire, and everybody ran for the front door, including yours truly. But when I got on the outside, then I realized that I'd left my guitar inside. I went back for it. The building was a wooden building, and it was burning so fast when I got my guitar, it started to collapse around me. So I almost lost my life trying to save the guitar. But the next morning, we found that these two guys who was fighting was fighting about a lady. I never did meet the lady, but I learned that her name was Lucille. So I named my guitar Lucille and reminded me not to do a thing like that again.

Hmmm I'd have to think about that. Music the central thread of my life until a few years back. I wouldn't even know how to really explain what it meant to me.
I used to get Albert King and Albert Collins mixed up When I was a child I got Austin and Boston mixed up

Hahaha George H. - okay - good point and fair enough!

[Footnote: how awesome is this emoji = <- I love using it - because sometimes, honestly? Word's just don't suffice so this is a great emoji for summing up how I feel sometimes.]

It might be interesting to hear me pronounce Austin and Boston w/ my Texas mixed w/ upstate NY and Cali accent
I'd love to be able to elucidate what music is to me for my own benefit as much as anything. My native language, home planet, religion, security blanket, refuge, driving force... I can't do it
Back OT... in a strange way Ben E King was as important to me as BB King.
Stand By Me
I read a lot about BB King last night. Nobody, ever, past or present, had anything bad to say about him personally. The relaxed, friendly, humble man you saw on stage was the real BB King. His last few performances were so sad. He had taken to using a chair onstage mostly for quite a while. His mind and body were going fast and his performances reflected it. A blues man plays the blues... so that's what he did until it just wasn't physically possible anymore.
