I know I posted a very similiar post last year at this time, but anyway.......

Yesterday my girls and I went for a walk. They both had already started their annual rock collection, but as we walked, rocks were again the tool that brought us together. A spring breeze, a sunny afternoon, a walk, and some rocks.... Looking for the one that seems unique in shape ( a heart, an arrow, a snail, a turtle) or color (green, pink, orange, marbled).... During these walks some of the most interesting conversations take place. It really was a pleasure to be in the company of great little minds whith huge ideas and deep thoughts of wonder.... Such as, my youngest, Becca, who is 9 was intrigued by the white crystal looking rocks who earlier that day came in the house hollering how rich she was because she found a diamond! She would not take my counter thought as an absolute "no it can't be"....

Her logic in questions which lead to her theory:
"long ago, could this land we live on, once been a volcano that exploded?"

I said , "Why I suppose it could very well have been."

Becca: "Then how do you know that these rocks couldn't be diamonds mom?"

The only reponse I could give was a simple, "I don't......"

I just love this time of year and the exploration that comes with the simple things.....

How sweet her logic is! : )

Keep an eye on that little girl of yours. You never know. My oldest son used to love to collect "treasures" from the walks he took with his grandmother, my mom. Would you believe he actually did find a diamond?? Yes he did! Re-visiting The Simple Things... It must have fallen out of a setting because that's all there was and no way to identify it. He still has it, about some 35 years later. Re-visiting The Simple Things...

These times that we spend with our kids are precious and always the best medicine to a horrible society. Im glad that you take the time to show your girls that there is something better than tiome in front of a tv. on the phone ..

Its sounds that you have a wonderfull child

My son up till he was 12 thought all rocks had diamonds in them. He would sit out there for hours trying to smash them to find the diamonds. Every spring he would do this.
He also thought you really could dig to china. Yup every year a Big hole in the yard.
Thank goodness he is over that"the hole" still looks at rocks , like I know they are in there. You can see the look in his eyes.

What a wonderful time spent with your children! These are the times they will remember. These are the times that will ground them during their life and give them a basis to be the best they can be. Re-visiting The Simple Things...

Thank you... I appreciate it dearly....

Last fall we planted a flower garden for the first time and they are so delighted to see that their hard work has paid off, lots and lots of sprouts/stocks, can't wait to see them bloom.... Our current exploration is the critters that amke our land their home.... yesterday was a snake, we helped it cross the driveway.... Sallies are our favorite to spot.... This weekend will be mud puddle jumping, LOLOL...

Awww, and ya hate to burst their hope.... but even if ya tell them the opposite they seem to more intent to prove us wrong or have a theory to support thier ideas and then it gets us thinking, well maybe?!?.. I love it....

I remember being the kid that also thought it was possible to dig to Chine and would start a hole but I usually pooped out before the hole got to large size, LOL.... Didn't like hard labor then either,LOLOL...

I am enjoying reading about these child/childrens explorations....

I hope these memories do stay with them.... It is kinda funny b/c I have seen my oldest kids (boys almost 18 and 16) checking out thier little sisters' collections and saying "cool" or " i like this one"... I just secretly look and relish in the moment of innocence and wonder.... Soon they will be all grown and on their own and I want to take in every moment I can of their curiosity....
