My 84 year-old mom who has lived in her custom built home since 1985 has never used her sunken bath tub, fireplace, or formal dining room that she wanted so badly. She doesn't cook or keep any food in her refrigerator because she's terrified of food poisoning. She has zero hobbies. She doesn't even have a debit card. What strange behaviors do your parents exhibit?

My dads pretty normal aside from his twisted sense of humor, sarcasm and he's a bit cantankerous on his bad days. I like to think he's the one I take after. Mom is sweet though incredibly naive and oblivious. She lives with her head in the clouds most days. Love my mom, but I can't stand talking to her anymore. She drives me nuts. She's to normal. lol

Mom was rather normal. Dad on the other hand. He comes out with completely random comments without filter. He can be a bit goofy. He gets stuck on principles, for instance outright refusing to shop in certain places or eat in certain places, even his politics are inflexible.

Me too, Hooligan. I love her to death and she's a very brave kind lady, which is why I want more for her. But She's not curious at all about anything. She just prefers not to know. Maybe I know too much. Hooligan, I can tell you've got it going on! I read your posts.

My mom was the sweetest thing ever. We lost her last year.
My dad is a hard man to be around. Had a rough childhood & I think he's BPD. Has a firey unpredictable temper, moody, it's his way or the highway. When we visit have to walk on eggshells. At 82 don't think he's gonna mellow out... Don't know how my mom stood it for 59 yrs...bless her. So do I personally think he's wierd? Yes. |

My mother was an extremely bright, colorful, entertaining woman. She could also be very abusive. I am absolutely sure that she not only had BPD, but was the most BP anyone has ever been.
My father was, in appearance, very normal. His moods, however, were quite extreme. I've always thought he tended toward bipolar. My step-father was highly intelligent and a complete, raving alcoholic madman. Violent, abusive (physically, sexually, emotionally), insane - when he was a 'man'. When he dressed like a woman he was gentle and demure. Basically, I come from a very creative and very nutty family. I lost my parents when i was quite young. I miss my mother. |

They aren't weird any more...they're dead. BUT I plan to be just as weird as they got...when I'm in my 80s too!
![]() There are some tell tale signs though, that they ARE in the real final years... you might want to look for them so you can have those conversations and ask the questions you have. ![]()

My mom isn't really weird. But my dad... He can be so weird. He has a strange kind of humor. He can be irritating. He always forget where he left things, like his keys, Phone, camera...

My parents grew up in a different generation and they see things much differently than I do. I would consider my dad pretty normal - he's logical and supportive. My mom, on the other hand, is probably undiagnosed BP. Like me, she can be unpredictable but since she grew up in a different generation in which mental health was taboo, she refuses to get any help. Like Poppy Road said, my mom can also be bright, colorful, and entertaining, but she has a dark side that can flip *very* quickly. I have a sister that refuses to talk to her going on six or seven years now.

My mother lives with me and I am her full time carer. She is my life. My father was autistic and abusive. He died 10 years ago. I have no siblings or other family. If my mother's OK, I am. If she's not, I'm not. I love her more than anyone in the world. She's 83 and I'm scared about my future as I can't see one without her.

My mom is very funny because she is unaware of being funny. I mean she has humor too, but she's also very funny unintentionally. She thinks she is fairly normal because she is the generation where everyone was normal. But she is very "creative" with her solutions with things. I mean yes, her way often works, but they often mean something drastic and unexpected. She also says things that make people laugh. Especially her and my best friend go well together, they are like 10 year old girls when they get together. It is all giggle giggle.
My dad puts his nose into everything and thinks he knows best in every situation. That is "mildly" annoying. Also he has a way of not believing me if weird stuff happens to me. He always takes the other part's side. But if you scrape off that tough surface he is so soft inside. He is quite warm but you can just see it rarely, and he also tries to hide worries but with worse result. Both my parents have some traits of autism and ADD. They must have had hell growing up. |

My parents are boring and normal. Seriously, they don't have any quirks worth noting.
On the other hand, if you asked my daughter, she could give you a laundry list of weird things about her parents. ![]()

Bless those of you who have lost your parents. My dad passed away from cancer about 20 years ago and my brother who lived with her, just last fall. My mom has always been hobby-less, mostly taking care of other people, and now alone, so that's probably why I'm so concerned. She's healthy and really deserves some time for herself. I want her remaining years to be full. Most parents do the best they can at raising their children; as a daughter and a mother, I can attest to that. I hear so many of you describe your parents' as having psychological problems of their own. And I see that by not taking care of my issues, totally consumed with work and family, I unknowingly set a poor example for my own child who is also troubled. If I had it to do all over again, I would've realized the importance of fixing myself first.
Thanks for your responses. |

My mother isn't necessarily 'weird' however she is extremely OCD. she is always cleaning the house.....even when the house is already clean.
Take care ~ MissLabarinth

There are many types of monsters that scare me: Monsters who cause trouble without showing themselves, monsters who abduct children, monsters who devour dreams, monsters who suck blood... and then, monsters who tell nothing but lies. Lying monsters are a real nuisance: They are much more cunning than others. They pose as humans even though they have no understanding of the human heart; they eat even though they've never experienced hunger; they study even though they have no interest in academics; they seek friendship even though they do not know how to love. If I were to encounter such monsters, I would likely be eaten by them... because in truth, I am that monster.

My parents were a perfect storm of crazy. Like a tornado that sucks everyone in who is dumb enough to get too close.

My parents were so leave it to beaver theres really nothing too weird. Mom has gotten weirder as she's gotten older, in a good way. Much less bothers her about people's living situations and she says some really off the wall stuff. The weirdest thing about her though is her need to watch the news in the morning, then the 5 o'clock and 6 o'clock then again at 10 pm. Way up loud, so loud it practically shakes the room. Oh, yeah she talks to the cat..but then so do I.
