It's unusually quiet right now where I live. Or perhaps I never notice it. Anyway, what do you like or appreciate about a still night? I like listening to the crickets and the simple emptiness of the night, especially when there's a warm breeze.

I enjoy the serenity of the night. Listening to the trees sway in the wind always calms me down, and makes me forget about all the stress in my life.

They pose as humans even though they have no understanding of the human heart; they eat even though they've never experienced hunger; they study even though they have no interest in academics; they seek friendship even though they do not know how to love. If I were to encounter such monsters, I would likely be eaten by them... because in truth, I am that monster.

misslabarinth, I love the picture in your signature line.

Most nights are quiet where I live because I live out in the boonies. I love when the weather is nice enough to leave the windows open so I can listen to the sounds of nature.

There are no still nights where I live. I do miss them. I miss the sense of connection to the universe. That sense that everything will work out.

Looking up at the moon and the stars reminds me how vast the universe is and how somewhat rather small I am in the grand scheme of things there's so much out there.

The silence!!
We went away this past weekend to an isolated place where there was no electricity or outside lights. Just before bed we went outside and looked up at the most amazing star filled sky. Pity it was ruined by my stepdaughter's incessant nasal chatter.

On an nice quiet evening here, the lightning bugs (fireflies) come out and start blinking all over the yard. We live in the middle of the neighborhood so it's nice and dark around us. If you're lucky, one will land on you and will do the winky-blinky on your arm.

I love the night. The darkness, the moon, the stars. I especially look forward to the twilight and night now, when we in northern California are experiencing this blazing summer heat during our relentless drought. The summer days are so long; when night comes it's a blessing.
