What would you do for a living if you could do anything?

I got asked a variation of this today -- what would I do if I weren't working in my current field. It's bugging me, because I'm thinking and thinking about it, and I have no idea! I'm not really interested in, trained for, or skilled in anything else. At the rate my industry is changing, though, I probably won't be able to retire from anything resembling the job I do now, so it's not a bad idea to think of alternatives. But I wouldn't even know how to go about finding another field.

I would be a surgical nurse. Preferably in heart surgery. But at last.. I let teachers and other people intimidate me out of doing it ... and I didnt have enough self esteem to pursue it. Now health issues are in the way ... so its still a no go. If I could handle it now .. I wouldnt mind doing some kind of desk work in the health field.. or computer work. I gotta be able to get into PC yet!! GEESH!! lol

3 points:

1) I can't think of a DREAM job. Like, something absolutely ideal. So I know what you mean.

2) In a 'dream' job realistic to my current position, I would like to work more on the advertising side of things (and might at some point) - strategy planning etc. That is more of a sideways step for me.

3) Actually, IMO, skills are more transferable than ever in some fields these days - It seems that everyone and their dog has a 'degree' of sorts. So while in some ways this can make things more competitive, I think employers are looking for other qualities too - which means you may come from outside the 'ideal' qualification realm, but you may have other skills that place you above other candidates.

just my two cents ...

OH! I want to be a 'lady who lunches' with a super rich husband and spend my free time organising charity balls and events.

:>

(half joking ... heh)

dream job dream job Hi! I'm very new here! My dream job would be teaching sociology classes at a college or university. It might not happen until I retire, and it might only be at the local tech college but, someday I'll do it. I'm pretty lucky right now. I really like what I do, for the most part. Except for the paperwork part.

It just occurred to me that I never answered my own question dream job

If I could do anything besides what I do, I would be a doctor. I'm not sure what flavor (probably not a pdoc, LOL -- too close for comfort!), but I loooove all the "reality" medical shows on Discovery Health Channel and I'm fascinated by science. I'm just old enough that I was on the back edge of "girls don't do that," so no one ever encouraged my interest in it. I like reading about it on my own now, though.

I'd still teach or I'd open a pet rescue/boarding facility. My friend and I have it all worked out. She'll rescue the dogs, I'll rescue the cats. We've got a name picked out and everything. dream job
