The title of the article says these are things women with glasses know. I believe most of them apply to men who wear glasses too. I've done all of these except 12 and 18. I don't have a lanyard for my glasses because I can't see without them. No point in having them hang around my neck. I don't take them off to make a point for the same reason. I would ruin the effect when I squinted at the person. I can do a really mean glare over the top of my glasses though!

Another one I thought of is that if I have to listen to a speech or sermon or something that's boring and I'd prefer not to hear, I'll often take my glasses off and put them in my lap.

That way it looks like I'm still focusing on the speaker, but I can't see anything except a blur and my mind is free to roam where it wants.

I've had mine tried on, and yes, I got the I can't see out of these comment.
I wouldn't have a lanyard, these aren't reading specs.
Yes, I've realized that nothing sold OTC remotely comes close to my script, hence, yes, the whole 'trend' bothers me since I had to pay so much for my own.
I can at least put mine on the dashboard of my workvan, on rain days, since I've no time for constant wiping.
Never mind hot days, actually that point makes no sense. It's opening an oven or freezer that's the fogging up culprit . And I worry they'll crack from the work walk in freezers. A lanyard wouldn't rescue that.
Constant smudge, yep..
Why is this written gender specific?

I wondered that, too. It's originally from "Good Housekeeping" magazine - I suppose they assume that most of their readers are female.

I don't believe they are gender specific either. +That's why I said I think these apply to all glasses wearers.

That is just awesome, I know the exact feeling. Yes I am a guy and all but the mascara is applicable to me and no I don't have a lanyard, except for my sunglasses. I do both either the glare over the top or the Clint Eastwood squint, like go ahead make my day, when I take them off. The kissing thing isn't really a problem either, not at least that I have found.

Brings to mind the day I was fishing
and bent over to put a bluegill in the
water floating creel ... As my glasses
started to fall from my face & into the
lake, I quickly reached up to push
them back on - forgetting all about
the fish in my hand - and smacked
myself slap dab & full on in the face
with it!

Reckon that poor fish was like, "What The Hell?" ...

My younger brother has worn glasses most of his life.
It wasn't for decades that it even dawned on me how different our lives must be (reading specs here).
I have been about as insensitive as can be without even realizing it.
Learning about this subject has been on my to do list for some time now.... I become more aware of the discrimination occurring just about every time I turn around.
Thank you for this thread, lizard lady, and thanks to all the first responders.

pfrog - that's way better than any of my glasses story.

I've been wearing glasses since I was 7 years old. The horror of my life was introduced when I was 9. My father didn't want to risk, my expensive glasses being broken, so he got me sport glasses. They had thick black rubber frames, a wide rubber nose piece that bent, and were held on by elastic bands. I thought I'd been teased about glasses before, nothing compared to when the school kids saw these beauties.

I recently started wearing glasses a few years ago, middle aged thing, just for reading. I'm thinking of laser surgery. Would any of you consider having that?

I started wearing glasses a few years ago....what a pain I feel like my vision is blocked by the edges of the glasses. I still have great peripheral vision , I can see clear until I get to the edge of the frame...then it goes blurry. I can't stand reading in bifocals..supposed to use trifocals but....yuk. So I have separate glasses so it's more comfortable and relaxing to read. So much fun when I have to tell people...wait, need my other glasses...then I end up with both on!

My mum, she had cataract surgery and didn't have to wear glasses for a while...gee jealous much? I'd love to be able to afford eye surgery and et rid of the glasses.

Ugh. Severely nearsighted since childhood. Glasses, then contact lenses, then glasses again. It seems to me that in this year of 2015 medical science could come up with drops or something to correct severe vision issues.
Thanks for this!

I've worn glasses since I was about 7. Drives me crazy but I'm terrified of Lasik.

I used to wear contacts all the time but now since I do not leave the house much it's easier to wear glasses. When I did work on the occasion I did not wear my contacts (running late or ran out of them) I would wear my glasses to work. It drove my coworkers nuts because my glasses were wayyyyyyyyy outdated. One time I broke my glasses and had an eye infection so I used a pair of my moms old ones which you should never do but I did.

Oh well I am not in to being fashionable so it did not matter to me

Little Cat, I don't think Lasix would correct the multiple problems I have with my vision, so never considered surgery. Plus the idea of them cutting on my eyes creeps me out. I only know one person who had the surgery. It did not correct all of her problem so she was not happy. Then again, that was almost 15 years ago. I'm sure things have changed.
Thanks for this!

Wanted to add one they left off the list...

The challenge of finding your way to the water at the beach after you take your glasses off!

Little cat my aunt had the surgery and it worked for her.

I have a friend who has had eye issues for years. She just had her 17th eye surgery and the med to numb her eye wore off before they finished. She did not say anything to them and when they took the cover off her face they was tears running down her face. Also 3 weeks out from the last surgery and it does not seem like it has taken. Now she has a lot of eye issues so hers is a more complicated thing.

OHMYGAWD!!!!! That is my worst fear about having eye surgery. I would have screamed the building down!

A few months ago when I was dealing with a retinal bleed the retinal specialist said if the bleed did not stop on it's own he would have to make injections in my eye!!!!! I almost told him he better plan on putting me under general anesthesia before he tried sticking a needle in my eye!
