I got a call today from a recruiter that works at Fry's. They said I see that you can work weekends and holidays and I said yes, but I can not work evenings on Wednesdays. He said that's fine. He told me it was a part time job and they pay $8 an hour. He told me I can't wear Shorts, Jeans, T-shirts, or sandals/flipflops. So what should I wear? I don't really have anything at home but those things that he mentioned. So, I'm pretty much stuck wearing a skirt with a matching shirt or the blue dress I am supposed to be wearing for my wedding. I asked my Fiance if he could give me like $40 so I can go get some pants (NOT JEANS) and a nice shirt. He said he doesn't know if he can give me $40 so I might get stuck buying it with my own money even though I don't want to. Anyways, I had to schedule it for the 14th, and I told them why (because I am going to be at the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit) and I really can't cancel it. He said that was fine. I have a really weird feeling I'm going to get this job. Mainly because I didn't put the other 3 jobs I had where I got fired, because I was afraid they wouldn't even call me. And there is a good gap from my first job and the interview now. But I guess they didn't care. Cuz they never even mentioned anything about it. I'm afraid though that they will mention it at the interview and I really don't know what to say. The 3 jobs I got fired from I was really young. The last job got fired from was 2010. I could say that I was really young when I lost those jobs and I was not as mature as I am now. But then there comes the question why didn't I have any jobs since 2010. Honestly I have been going through a change since June of 2011. I was homeless for a year and then I was getting help for my mental issues and I have been in recovery and I am technically disabled because I receive SSDI. And well I don't know if I should share that I am mentally ill. I mean that could make them not want to hire. But really I think they should know just in case something happens and then they would know already and not fire me. But if I don't tell them they could fire me over something like a mental break down if they don't know. Plus I have PTSD and I think they should know that I could get triggered by something. What do you guys think I should do/tell them?

It's probably best to talk about job demands, work culture and what dynamics you bring to the work environment, as an asset. Dredging up personal matters, leads to wondering about attendance and the ability to get along with others. It flags reliability, in my humble opinion.

The only reason to bring up personal baggage is if you really don't want the job. Pretty simple.
Thanks for this!

If you are on disability and can only work certain hours or you need accommodations, then they need to know but otherwise not their business

what do you wear... you wear your jobs (Fry Store Employee uniforms)example walmart employess must wear walmart employee shirts with the store logo on it and walmart name tag and walmart work polyester work /dress pants.. they will be able to tell you what to buy, in what colors and where.

you stated you are on SSI, you will need to contact your SSI caseworker to let them know you are now working part time and report to your caseworker how much you are getting paid and supply a pay stub and some times they ask you for a list of where your job money is going. They may change your SSI status from full disability to either partial disability (which can reduce the amount of your SSI checks) or switch you over to SSI's ticket to work program where you will be able to work so many hours or so much money before they deduct it from your checks. if this happens it will be your responsibility to report your earnings and hours every month and make sure you do not work more than is allowed on the program other wise you will no longer be considered disabled and they can require you to pay back any money you were not entitled to for those hours that go over what you are allowed to work on ticket to work program. in other words now that you have a job this works towards your becoming a non disabled person in the future so you need to be careful and make sure your caseworker explains how your working is going to affect your having SSI and how much longer they will allow you to work and still receive SSI. some people are on ticket to work indefinitely and others only a short time before SSI says you have to get a full time job and no more SSI.

Congratulations on the new job opportunity! Coincidentally, I just got hired by the same company here in Texas. It's called Kroger over here. The only thing to remember when dressing for the interview is not to dress in something that would communicate a lack of respect for the people who took the time to read your resume and talk with you. You don't want to look as though you don't care. Business casual is how they asked me to dress, and since it is the same company, I can assume that would be ok for you too.
You should definitely bring up any mental or physical disabilities you have so they will have a better understanding of your situation and can work with you more efficiently. I'm pretty sure Kroger is an equal opportunity employer, so your PTSD should not disqualify you from the job. So long as you are capable of performing the required tasks, you're golden. They focused more on how long I'd worked at each job than the length of time between them. They did ask why I left each one, and I answered honestly. They really just want to know what sort of skills you garnered in your past occupations and if you were fired or left due to poor behavior or work ethic. Don't let your worries keep you from a job. If it makes you feel any better, the people were so very nice. I'd like to assume they'll be nice over there too.
Thanks for this!

Um, I get SSDI not SSI. They are two different things that do not work the same.

yes I was aware of th at after I wrote and reread my post but here in my location the two are very similar and have the same standards for working\ticket to work program therefore I saw no need to edit my post.

regardless of what type of Social security someone has, the moment you get a job you need to report to the caseworker that you have a job, what the groos pay is and supply pay stubs for verification. this is so that the one on social security only gets what they are legally entitled to and if the person on social security gets over paid through social security they have to repay it back to t he government. this is how social security works. Even more so for SSDI because its based on ones work history. you should have gotten an information booklet that tells you all about what your responsibilities are for reporting your income and how when you applied for it. if you dont report your income its called fraud and is a crime here in the USA. your caseworker can explain all this to you and what you need to do in order to keep receiving all or part of your SSDI based on what your income through your job is going to be.

here is a link to the social security website on working while receiving SSDI Social Security - The Red Book - Returning to Work

your caseworker can go into more details according to your own SSDI requirements regarding working while on SSDI.

Yes they aren't the same thing but you are getting disability payments so if you start working you need to show it to your caseworker and you need to find out how much you can work. They might change your benefits if you now work. That's what the person was telling you.

Also don't go buy anything before they tell you. They have specific requirements for what to wear. Certain type of pants and shirts. When you go there so you see what they are wearing? I doubt you'd be wearing a skirt there

As long as I don't go over $1,090 I'm good. I've already discussed it with the SSA. And there is no limit on how many hours a week you can work. As long as you don't go over the $1,090 you are fine. I'm already way ahead of you.

Your worries may really be premature anyway. You haven't been interviewed yet.

I don't see why she wouldn't get a job. Kroger and in effect any retail especially grocery stores hire all the time, and I live in a state with high unemployment.

Oh I am no expert on how disability payments exactly work in each state. I was more concerned that you'll buy clothes for work that will be no use as they have different rules. If you need clothes for interview though in my state rehabilitation services would help you with interview clothes.
