Eskie, didn't realize the smell was so strong the next day when I asked my question. iIt definitely sounds like the skunk is spraying around your house/barn. Ain't nothin' that smells worse! And it lasts FOREVER!

I've seen repellent stuff at Home Depot and Tractor Supply. Maybe you could have a truckload of it dumped in your yard.

I have a personal experience skunk story. We used to live in a mobile home that was very close to the ground. There was a skunk that started coming by to visit every evening. We had a not too bright dog at the time who would chase the skunk under the trailer. The two of them would bounce off the floor joists like ping pong balls, the dog barking like a maniac and the skunk spraying up a storm. It would have been funny if the stink hadn't made us gag!

((((eskie)))) You aren't nauseous even at your worst! I know you meant nauseated.

I'm sure the other neighbors, farmers whatever you have will have solutions? I think the predator urine is your best bet to scare them off.

The thing is I have no idea where this skunk actually is or where it's spraying. My woods are only about 100 feet from my house & a fairly steep slope going down into them. No telling where this little guys home really is & neighbor who doesn't live here has an empty delapidated barn close to the property line with a house he never finished building....lots of places for a skunk to make its home I can't even get to. Most of my farm & that area is so overgrown until winter makes it die back it's hard to even get through except for the wild animals.

I saw a little skunk crossing the driveway as I was leaving the farm where I'm caring for the abused stallions. Glad he was paying attention to something in the grass & not my truck.

I was up at 4am getting a hot shower for my sore muscles from dragging a muck bucket up a hill at the farm to get it to the manure spreader. Hurt so bad I couldn't sleep & now every smell is bothering me. Skunk smell was gone but dog smell & other smells from working with the horses that get on my cloths I can't wash until my new washing machine arrives next Tuesday seems to be filling my bedroom. Sooooo sensitive after that skunk on Monday night. Then I wake up at 8:30 & smell a lighter smell of skunk again so sometime between shower & morning a skunk sprayed somewhere around. I don't think they hibernate in the winter because last winter when I was caring for my friend/neighbor's dogs I stopped & watched a skunk digging in the snow along their almost mile long driveway. How can something sooooo cute smell so bad & why is the skunk the only little animal that was given such a horrible smell to protect itself?

Not sure what the solution is since I haven't even seen the skunk or where it spraying tho it has to be somewhat close to the house as the smell doesn't go away like if it just came in from a distance. The smell does travel a long distance.

Grrrr.
You know, I have used moth balls to rid the roaming cats from peeing in my mulch...they didn't come back (the other time I did have to use the white pepper powder) it's a terrible smell but it also evaporates in time... both good things imo Cheap too.

I am sorry that I have no knowledge about the what to do's and wherefore's of a skunk. I have been to perfume parties (which can be very stinky) and in order to clear the nose after sniffing 3 different scents you were advised to sniff a dry unused tea bag.

It really did work and helped greatly to revive the overpowered sense of smell.

Roll on having a washing machine and getting rid of these noxious odours. I wonder if the smell of one skunk encourages the next skunk to re-mark the territory? I hope that you do find sweet relief soon. Hang in there eskie.

Somehow I think this is skunk season. I did see one as I was rounding the hill on the road to me farm. Lol. Don't think the little guy actually was in my back yard. I was going to have the washer delivery guys come in through my basement sliding doors but the backyard is soooooo overgrown it would have taken me days to clear it enough for them to get through. LOL....I first looked at my entry way & all that needed to be moved & initially went for the yard...but after I looked closer at the yard...I went for moving furniture I needed to move & clean around anyway. Killed 2 birds with one stone (tho I would NEVER kill a bird).

Washer delivered & set up. Now I have a ton of laundry to do. At least can throw it in a machine & let IT do the work.

Haven't smelled skunk for a few days now...but they are out & about more than I have experienced previous years.

Loved when I drove home last night after ballroom dance class I parked right in front of my door with headlights shining across my field & picked up the sight on 2 doe's wandering down the driveway. Also interesting while mowing the path into my back field I crossed a bunny path in the grass. Several other paths I found in the mowed but longer grass I was mowing. They might be from deer also. I mow the front area later in the day but not that area. Definitely wouldn't want to run across a skunk on my mower. I found a tiny baby turtle when mowing a few years ago. You never know what you will find....the joy of farm living..have never loved anything more in my life even with the horrible skunk smells. How can anything sooooo cute STINK soooooo bad????

We were smelling one around quite a bit. My one son-in-law lifted the tarp on the firewood and saw a Garter snake. So we imagine the skunk was after it. They kept a good eye on her and saw a bunch of babies out there under the tarp with her one day. All have since went on their ways and no more skunk!
