I have a dilemma. As I mention in many of the posts I write, I consider myself to be sort-of a student of the Buddhist nun Pema Chödrön. So I should meditate, right? Buddhists meditate... I should probably be meditating now. But instead, I'm replying to Threads here on PC. I consider each Thread I reply to, to be of the utmost importance. Otherwise, I wouldn't bother...

Decades ago, I worked as what used to be called an "Orderly" in the emergency department at Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, New York. There was one young pediatrician there who, one time, commented that he wanted to see as many kids with problems as it would be possible for him to do. He said he didn't know why... but he did.

I sort-of feel similarly. I want to reply to as many Threads, from members here on PC who are hurting, as possible. I don't know why. And I don't know if anything I write really does much of any good for them. But I need to do it... for me. So, instead of taking the time to do the sitting meditation I should probably be doing, I'm using the time to just reply to one more Thread... one more Thread... perhaps it can be considered a type of meditation in it's own right? I don't know...

I know what you mean about PC.

As for meditation, it's usually best to meditate upon awakening in the morning. And you know, just ten mins of meditation is fine.

Is there time for you to both meditate and be on PC, skeezyks?

Hi LauraBeth: Thanks for your reply! Yes, there certainly is time to do both. But I find I am just driven to reply to as many Threads here on PC as possible. Unfortunately, in the morning, I am just a basket case. It's not a total loss though. I do try to practice the principles set forth in the Lojong teachings throughout the day...

Either way, it's good to see you around. I'm trying to reenergize to get back to my cl role. Been absorbed with numerous changes in my life that have occurred over the past several months. Some sad and some exciting. Some difficult and some that are a test to moral scruples. Otherwise, I'm sorting through things.
Has your meditation been a strict regimen?

Practice throughout the day is an excellent habit. After all, you can practice Buddhist principles and 'do the work' at all times, and while doing anything. I follow my breathing as much as I remember to whenever I'm awake, and try my best to practice 'just noticing' as much as I can.

And thank you for caring so much about being a PC member. I consider you one of the pillars around here.

Hello healingforme: Thanks for your reply to my Thread! No, I'm afraid my meditation practice could never have been called strict. I've been an on-again / off-again meditator for... oh... probably 45 years more-or-less. I've always been a pretty undisciplined sort-of person, unfortunately. Recently I've been trying to re-commit to it. I have done quite a bit of reading with regard the Tibetan Buddhist practice of "Lojong" as is taught by the Buddhist nun Pema Chödrön. I find much to appreciate in it.

I've be doing something I call 'living meditation', this isn't to be a smart alec but I find "normal" meditation to be bit of a fad.

Living meditation, is like deliberately forcing your self to be conscience of everything you do. Like say for example practicing piano scales, you are in that present moment making sure you hit each note correctly.

Your posts have always brought me comfort.
It seems like replying to threads brings you peace of mind (except for having to wake up feeling like a basket case)... so that's kinda like meditating too, right?
I'm glad you like to help; I know it is much appreciated.
(I thought to become Buddhist eons ago, but I never could get past the hallucinations and voices while meditating... I did learn through attempting to meditate that I had more inner chaos than I knew about.)
