I am a dang alien here!

But on my home planet we celebrate other things.

Also on my home planet eating is a private matter, you don't do it in front of others and doing it more for a holiday would be almost illegal.

Gift giving, BTW, is not common on my home planet. We get our own stuff, that is all.

How about you's?

I was at the grocery store yesterday and thinking "Wow, we Americans sure do like our holiday feasts!" (I don't associate that with our obesity problem, since the feasting long predates the obesity problem.)

I suppose I am doing a very mini-Celebration. I'd like to be able to see family, but my family is scattered across half the US, so we rarely get together.

I don't celebrate xmas either. But I don't get offended if someone else does or what greetings they use this time of year. I don't have a problem eating with other people tho. Have a good weekend!

I usually reply a merry Christmas with happy Midwinter. I'm not offended either. People are not mind readers.

I do not celebrate christmas either. For me, it is the most depressing time of year. My parents are gone. My siblings are scattered across the nation. I cannot afford to take off a whole day from work, unless it is my regular day off. It is painful to me to see/know so many people have real life friends, and I continue to struggle to find just one friend. Presents are definitly not in my budget. Etc, etc.

I do believe in recognizing that the Savior of the world came to be one of us. But, I cannot "get" why buying each other gifts is supposed to show our worship of Him.

Or maybe all this just makes my depression worse.

Life goes on. In about two weeks, this christmas will be forgotten.

(The above was not intended to be snarky. Christmas just depresses me).

You're not the only one Jimi. I'm not celebrating by default. Sometimes it just works out that way.

Agreed. I am so not in to the holidays. I do send out a couple cards to family members, but since I live alone and far from everyone, I treat it as a weird day off. It's unfortunate that so many people all celebrate at the same time - it makes normal errands and shopping very difficult the week before and after Christmas.

Ever since my parents got divorced and everybody moved away from 'home' (including myself), christmas has never been the same. Im trying to start a couple new traditions this year, to move on, but I gotta say that I can't help but tear up when thinking about it. I'm not so much celebrating as just trying to get past it.

I kind of wish I was celebrating Christmas, but I'm not. My kids are doing the day with husband and girlfriend's families. I'll be having dinner with my daughter and son-in-law tonight, but that's it. I might take myself to a movie tomorrow, just because I fear the lonesomeness.

I have some friends, some family. I don't mind seeing them, not even giving them a little gift now and then. I don't mind good food either (although I hate cooking). But I do that through the year. I don't have any set times for when to do this and that. It feels much nicer just arranging to meet like whenever. I always been like that.

Well, I celebrated Xmas as a child but then there were no cooking and no spending money, all there was was getting. And my family didn't drink alcohol either so that was a bonus. Any kid likes getting stuff, LOL. Even if we didn't get nearly as much as kids today do. Which I am happy about. When I was a kid I liked getting cheaper gifts like crayons, paper and books. Also my grandmom was still alive and she made marvellous candy.

Xmas is for kids if anything. I wish we could make it even more kid friendly, then it sure would take stress off of adults. Just giving to kids, not cooking all the stuff kids hate (European thing lol, we eat a ton of dishes at Xmas and kids might like half) and no alcohol.

I have stayed away from the insanity completely this year. (I never celebrate but my friends had me tagging along when they went shopping and stuff like that. Also stayed inside a lot this winter so saw "nothing".)

It's been awesome!
Thanks for this!

I'm not celebrating today either. Family had other plans which did not include me.

For us we don't celebrate Christmas, our holiday is more like a large version of Pagan Yule and East Asian festivals in celebration of the upcoming new year and winter. We celebrate our Gods that are most active during this time of the year.

Either way though.. Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and I hope everybody has had a fulfilling year.

My kids and grandkids come over. I do enjoy seeing them and it gives my wife an excuse to put my Donald Duck lights on the tree. But, other than that, you can`t celebrate when your laying in your bed and your grandkids don`t understand why. They know Papaw is broke, so they get on the bed with me and visit.
