So I've been working on that draw 2...an article said that even pro blues artist have trouble hitting this note! The most I can hold it is about 2-3 seconds, and then I have trouble. I'm getting the lips and tongue in a better position and it's getting easier...but so tough! Once I nail this draw 2 then I'm home free.

I'm amazed that people have trouble with piano. If you don't aspire to be a concert pianist it's so easy because it's linear. You could say guitar is linear but if you look at it that way it's 6 linear instruments plus the hammer ons and pull offs and string bending. The only instrument I ever got paid to play was drums but on the other hand nobody paid me not to play the other instruments ![]() |

Continuation question with this thread without creating a new thread is...
Who are your musical inspirations and influences? In general or specifically with the instrument you play? I've been a fan of the Blues Brothers since I was little. I haven't seen the original movie much but I love Blues Brothers 2000 and I grew up listening to their CDs. Right now John Poppin from the Blues Traveler and Dan Akroyd are my harmonica idols. They both play the harmonica so well...and John Poppin owns FOURTEEN harmonicas! |

When I think of the harmonica I think of all the great blues musicians. I want to be just like them and wail a bluesy harmonica solo like nobody's business. |

That's great. Now you need to go back and find the people who influenced your influences. I'd start with Junior Wells
![]() Wow... influences is a big question. It's hard for me because keyboard players influenced my drum playing almost as much as drummers did. Drummers.. when I first heard Carmine Appice play I knew I wanted to be a drummer. Oddly enough he isn't one of my favorites. Mitch Mitchell, John Bonham, Carl Palmer, and Billy Cobham. and the drummers who influenced them... Elvin Jones, Art Blakey, Philly Jo Jones. Those are my drum influences. I don't consider myself proficient enough on the other instruments I played to have influences. |

I play electric guitar, a Fender Strat. I picked it up during my 14th mid life crisis and enjoy it very much. I find comfort in music and it gives me a creative outlet. The only downside is I can only seem to find time to play late at night when everyone is asleep. I put on my headphones and ruin my ear drums.
I dabble on the keys as well, but more to give me tone for the guitar. |

I played violin for 15 years, but barely practiced and had awful teachers, so I have the repertoire of a 9-year-old who started last year. Kind of hate myself for it: for years I only performed the same three painfully simple pieces, slowed down because I never knew what they were supposed to sound like. Even though I desperately wanted to learn something else but was never good enough.
Someday maybe I'll take it up again if the shame doesn't kill me. Learn real classical music this time. This post ended up more depressing than I hoped. |

Cello is my mainstay and truly adore playing it. I started in high school (on my own, not something through the school) because it was always my favorite instrument. I played through college and would do gigs around the city with my friend on the acoustic guitar and a smattering of different friends that would contribute to songs. I couldn't afford lessons after some time (college in circa 2008-2009 was rough, as it was rough for most Americans in some way). But, I've recently taken it back up with lessons.
I can also play the trumpet well. I'm able to play the violin, mostly because of my cello lessons, but by ear only.. I don't read music for it or practice it, I love picking it up and just making little tunes for awhile. Played guitar when I was very young. Also teaching myself some piano. |

When I was young I played guitar. I gave it up decades ago. A few years ago, I thought I'd like to get back into playing some music. I didn't want to take up the guitar again. I decided on the autoharp. I thought it would be easy... it wasn't! A while back I just grew tired of it & put it away. I don't know as I'll ever go back to it again. My CD player plays so much nicer music than I could ever put out...
