Hello,

Some people must know me here, but the most of people don't know me. It's normal because I come to speak rarely.

I learn English on Duolingo - do you know this site ? On this site, I have a meter, it permit me to see the number of days in the row I'm on this website, and I learn English. That makes 227 days !
I learn day after day, at least 2 hours a days, or more !

Of course, I improve my level. For example, I can read so much better than before, I can write this message without looking for many words ( one and two maybe ). But, it's tiring to read the message, and reply them. I like going to the chat, but, I don't understand well enough, so, I speak rarely and nobody speak to me. I'm like a ghost lost in the middle of the people.

Don't worry about that, I'm more frustrated than sad, and I know that the frustration will be the motor which will propel me ahead. But I felt the need to say it.

You have so much luck to know how to read, understand, write and especially be able to speak English fluently !

Thanks for your attention.

P.S. : I hope I don't have made too many mistakes.

Hello and welcome

You did fine. I think it's lucky to now more than one language.

I hope you come back and practice more often.

Congratulations!

My mother was born in Marseille, France. WW-II left most of France, including Marseille, in ruins. My mother made the difficult decision to leave her family and come to America in 1952 at the age of 19. She knew no English. None. She found shelter in a French monastery. She learned to say, in English, bacon and eggs, and would order that at a local diner on a daily basis. She has told me that she learned to speak English by watching television.

LaKapsule, use my mother's life experiences for inspiration.

Again, congratulations!

I wish I could speak two languages!! I think your English is pretty darn good for learning it on your own! English is a hard language to learn that many of us can easily take for granted. So I applaud your effort, keep it up!
Thanks for this!

Thanks Kindness and thanks everybody !

This history is very intersting. I say to myself that will be easier if I lived ( even a little ) in England. But, I don't know which are the best ways for achieving that.

I'm going to change my signature in asking they correct me for improving myself !

No trouble understanding a word you said. You did great.

It's one of my goals to learn another language fluently (probably Spanish). Is this website you mentioned also for learning other languages?

Hello Crazy Hitch and thanks !

The problem is the time difference I think. That explains I miss a lot of people on the chatroom.

Yeah, on Duolingo there are a lot of other languages as the Spanish, the French, the Dutch, the German, the Italian, the Portuguese, the Swedish, the Russian etc., etc.

For learning, I go all the day on Duolingo ; I have one hour and a half course every week and I try to reading, to watching serie, video on Youtube etc.

Your English is very good. I know of DuoLingo & signed up for it (to become fluent in Spanish), but, haven't really used it. Mainly because I want to practice with people in person. Not so much a class (I've been in those before), but, a smaller group. Where someone teaches out of their home or something. In the meantime, I think I will start using DL more. Especially since I already know the basics of Spanish & your success makes me want to see how well I can do with it.

You speak English very well. Sometimes I watch european movies and need that subtitles on but that help me to learn other languages. Maybe watching english movies with the words printed out along the bottom (mostly used for deaf people) but maybe this will also help help you. Close captioned.

That's a good suggestion. I know of people who have also learned English by listening to music with English lyrics.

Yes, I watch all the movies ( when it's possible ) with the closed-caption. But, it remains very hard to understand.
