I was thinking for those of us who battle with depression, or anyone for that matter, sometimes we feel lifeless and without passion. I thought we could list things that would help spark creativity or inspiration in us during these hard times, then share your situation and how doing something creative gave you the will to push through.
PICK OUT A COLOR PAINT THAT MAKES YOU FEEL GOOD, THEN GO CRAZY ON YOUR WALLS. I picked out my favorite shade of purple, painted and redecorated an empty room, turning it into an "inspiration" room. I decorated with cool pieces of art that I picked up and added some old books that I inherited from an aunt who passed away. I love the room and when I'm in it, it feeds my creativity and gives me new ideas. |

Going to a crafts fair inspires me. All the wonderful ideas just flow through me.

I was just realizing that I am most inspired to write lyrics and poetry when I am sad, rejected, nostalgic.
When I am happy, I can write anything for performing arts or a short story, but I don't have the depth of emotions like when I am down. I have no patience with fine arts like drawing, painting, etc... I've always wanted a room in my house to be like a Morroccan salon with pillows all over, like an opium den, smoking room (not really opium). Red walls, mosaic tiles, hanging lanterns. Like the inside of Jeannie's bottle from I Dream of Jeannie.

As for the fine arts, I am completely the opposite - and I blame my medications. I haven't had my supplies out for months since when I last made a completely uninspired attempt at painting. I've accomplished nothing since my last hypomanic period. |
