Just a shout out/place to post to all of those/us who are a fountain of useless information

So a couple of days ago I went to an astrology museum with my support worker (apparently I need to get out more into the community).

Astrology isn't really my thing... but I am a bugger for remembering odd little snippets that I've read. She was looking at a feature about the Andromeda galaxy and I remarked that the milky way was on a collision course. She of course asked 'when?' to which I replied... 'a few billion years'.

We then went into the museums amphitheater and watched a 3d film about the universe... at the end in the credits it noted that Andy Circus was the narrator to which I remarked 'ooooh! he voiced and green screen acted Golem in Lord of the Rings'... at this, it just went straight over her head

When I think about it... I have a lot of these sort of moments with my wife... she's very tolerant.

I think I've seen pretty much every fan made short film there is, based on Star Trek, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Battlestar Galactica (either one), Robotech, Doctor Who, and The Terminator. Probably twice.

I'm an Otaku, tech geek and a car enthusiast. I think it's rather hard for me to have good conversations. Especially since I'm a woman who is unable to do makeup, wears no jewelry, and buys only black clothing because it all matches.

Add in the fact that I'm addicted to maladaptive daydreaming...

We're all weird in our own ways right?

When I was younger I used to be ashamed of my nerdiness/geekiness. I so wanted to fit in I denied who I was. Today I accept it as part of who I am. If people don't like it, so be it. This is who I am!

I can usually converse on about any topic, some deeper than others. What stumps me though is when my grandkids talk about current pop stars or young actors. I suppose they feel the same way if I talk about Chuck Norris or Madonna! lol

My favorite channel is the Science Channel, and I have over two hundred books. The majority of them are non fiction.

I'm a huge animal nerd. Need a random fact about any given animal? I probably know one (more than one, actually) and will give it to you.

I used to play "school" over the summer from elementary through middle school so that I wouldn't forget anything and would be prepared for the beginning of the school year. I would go to the library and get math and science textbooks!
I've also written three reports just because I was interest in the topic in middle and high school. There was no one to turn them into.

I'm a nerd from way back. I think it's genetic.

But especially when it comes to trivia. I've always been fond of backstory, and tend to remember a lot of details that most people probably consider throwaway. If I mention too many of them in one sitting people look at me funny, you know? Like maybe I have a photographic memory and haven't forgotten every unfortunate thing they've ever said in my presence.

Which I don't; it's only for things I'm fond of, and I'm not fond of keeping track of people's minor transgressions, which I tend to forgive. Nonetheless, I try to keep a bit of a lid on the extent of my knowledge so as not to cause worry.

I realized I was different when I was four. I'm like my dad.

My main interests are fungi, clocks, and science. Researching them is much more enjoyable than socializing with people. I also enjoy reading science fiction novels, watching Star Trek, and learning how mechanical devices work.

In middle school and high school I went to the library instead of study hall. Read fantasy, sci fi mystery and non fiction. Read the science encyclopedia from A-Z . in grade school collected sci fi and space bubble gum cards.

I suppose the biggest clue was correcting my 3rd grade teacher about space program. Yes it was the 1960's

My brother and I were watching TV and some guy royally missed his goal.

My brother: he critically missed his DEX roll
me: NAH if it was a critical miss he'd have broken a bone
my brother: Touche monsieur pussycat

Then I looked at him and said we are TOTAL nerds and we snort laughed

Yes I often impress people with very random memorized facts about animals, lol
- A baby whale can be a thousand lbs at birth
- the tiny rufus hummingbird has one of the longest migrations of any bird
- dolphins have multiple languages, depending on which area of the world they are from
-owls are one of the few animals to hunt skunks, because they have no sense of smell !!

In HS I was very much into sci-fi books and Star Trek tv show. Wrote my own sci-fi stories too. I had a best friend who was into the same things, so I had someone to talk with about it. "Normal" girls weren't into those things back then, in the 70s, so we were gals in a man's world before it was cool!

I love going to the library. In elementary school my mom would just drop me off for at least an hour because I didn't want to leave. My dad took me once and he was like, what's taking you so long?

I think my username, avatar & top half of my signature probably reflect my inner-nerd...

All from the Wheel of Time series of books by Robert Jordan.

I'm also a LotR fan. Have seen all of the appendices on the extended edition DVDs. Andy Serkis^ () is indeed a legend. I think a lot of people don't realise how much so unless they have seen the extras.

Interestingly I only recently finished reading the books though.

In 1980 when I was the only female computer engineer at the company.

I don't have time for makeup or jewelry. Usually I'm laye & just getting dressed to leave is an accomplishment. Too busy repairing things in my house. The only woman in my life who YouTubes & repairs my own plumbing, auto repairs that don't take special equipment & when the repair person came to repair my refrig under warranty & had him look at by broken washing machine, I had the diagnostic codes for him on the washing machine that the mfg said weren't available except to certified repairmen.

I also own the diagnostic code reader for the engine warning lights so I can tell what the problem is to know whether a mechanic is needed. I replaced my EGR valve on my truck though I needed help cracking 2 bolts so I could get the old one off. I might be a nerd but didn't have the muscle to put the nerd into action.

I was talking to a friend about music and from the look of amazement on his face suddenly realised not everyone carries around a huge chronological catalogue of artists/songs/facts in their head, like I have since I was a teenager.

I'm a complete dumbo when it comes to astronomy though TJ, so you have my respect. My husband also watches all he can on that subject and soaks up the info, it mostly sails over my head.
