Yes, I know this is kinda an annoying question. I'm not looking for attention or anything like that. I've been wondering about my eye color for YEARS and I figured this was not a horrible place to get a bunch of opinions because it is a very quick question. I'm genuinely confused because all my life, my mother has INSISTED that I have blue eyes and to be honest, every time I look at them, they look more green to me. Other people identify my eyes as either blue or green and once someone said they were gray. I think slightly more people have said they are green but I'm just confused and would like to know more opinions.

Two different pictures in different lighting:

Oooh - theyre that beautiful peacock - blue and green with a touch of gold. I love that color - my bowling ball is that color. I suppose they change according to what youre wearing? Blue clothes wil make them appear more blue etc. Do they call that hazel? But they seem more blue-green than hazel. Very distinctive.
Thanks for this!

Thank you. They do change color with what I'm wearing. If I wear anything green or teal, they go very clearly green. If I wear a bright blue, they go blue. I think hazel is predominately light or golden brown plus green.

I would say basically blue, but a really stunning blue!! you have beautiful eyes. I would say they are not hazel because there is no brown.

You have hazel eyes. I know it might not seem so with that little brown in them, but any color that is mixed with brown is hazel. Some people think hazel equals brown eyes, that is incorrect.

Also more confusing, one can think for decades one does have blue eyes since pigmentation gets darker later on in life. So you can change from green, grey or blue to hazel later in life, not genetically but on a visible level.

Hazel is known as the shifting color, I don't think it really shifts but it looks different depending on light and surrounding colors. So you might be correct in both calling your eyes green and blue. When the color is sort of between green and blue, I would say it is aqua.

So in my very humble opinion you have hazel eyes with aqua as the most dominant color.

I have hazel eyes, but nothing like that! Mine are brown with gold and green. I definitely can't decide between green and blue because to me they are blue green!
That's a color isn't it? Regardless they are so beautiful!

Yeah, I read about the color pigmentation changing with age. My siblings I think were all born with blue eyes and they darkened to very dark brown as they grew older. So it would make sense for my eyes that were a very bright blue when I was very young to shift to a more blue/green hazel shade.

I also don't believe the color literally shifts. I think that it changes with the lighting and colors. However, if it changes with the lighting, that would mean that basically all light colored eyes change because color is very easily influenced by the colors around it. A dark eye color however would not be so easily influenced which is why shifting from light brown to green in hazel eyes is so significant. Shifting between blue, green, and gray isn't as significant in my opinion because the colors are so close to each other at baseline. However, I obviously have some yellow in them which is characteristic of hazel eyes as well as green eyes. Because of that, I hesitate to put them in the category of blue because blue eyes lack the yellow pigmentation. I'm also unsure about calling them hazel because there is not much brown in it if at all if you look at the higher resolution photo on the right.

I don't know. I could be wrong. It's just a fun question and pretty subjective. My driver's license says blue because I couldn't pick blue/green which is the most accurate color in my opinion. Luckily, I don't think my eye color would be the absolute most important thing needed to identify me if I ever went missing or something.

Someone I knew had bright blue eyes until age 60, then golden rings appeared around the pupils. No green in them at all and mostly still blue.

Kinda odd.

That sounds like wilson's disease or a buildup of copper in the body. That could leave the golden rings.

Looks like my eyes. I say mine are blue (on like my DMV description), as the iris is surrounded by a strong blue circle. Then, the iris has both blue & green colors in it, with a golden hue surrounding my pupil. The green does get more pronounced with certain colors that I wear & if I'm sick or depressed. The blue stands out more with other colors and if I'm feeling happy.

I'm 43, and my eyes have always been this way as well. It is hard to tell people what color they are though!

I kind of find it hard to believe that eyes can change color based on mood. I'm not saying yours don't. I'm saying I remember thinking that maybe my eyes do because I was having a rough day and my eyes were fairly gray, but then I realized it was cloudy. The color of the sky was reflecting in my eyes.

It's definitely an interesting idea though

So, would 'other' be considered both green and blue, hazel, or a mixture of all of the above??

Other was supposed to be whatever you wanted it to be. I would have put hazel as an option if I had known that having brown in your eyes isn't necessarily a prerequisite to everyone. I assumed that most people would think they were blue or green with maybe a few people thinking gray.

To me I'd describe them as green, but what jimi said makes sense too.

However I may be biased in my answer, as my own eyes are green and I don't often meet other green eyed people!

I was thinking hazel, too, but was afraid of being wrong. Glad to see that someone else agreed and took the time to explain it.

They definitely don't look blue.

In any case, you've got pretty eyes.

lol it's an eye color. Completely subjective. There really is no wrong answer unless you were to say "brown" and even then, I wouldn't be offended. :P

Thanks!

I agree, they would be called hazel. Eyes that change color depending on surroundings are notoriously hazel. Mine can look blue, green or brown depending on my mood and what I'm wearing (or yellow if I'm really tired, but that's jaundice).

Nah it is natural. His son has the same although it showed much earlier in life. The son has overall more pigmentation. Son had blue eyes until maybe age 35.

Your eyes are stunning! I voted blue, but I really had to think about it, because your eyes really are blue-green. They are not hazel...hazel is definitely brown/gold/green.

Interesting about the copper theory. I have green eyes, but there has always been a copper-colored ring around my pupils. Hmm.
