My mom has used Mr. Coffee for years, but she is tired of it. She wants a new coffee pot for Christmas. They break pretty easily and she feels she wastes a lot of coffee with it. I recommended the keurig but she told me she was apprehensive to use it. If she wants a keurig, she wants to be able to use her coffee mugs of all shapes and sizes and that using it has always been confusing for her.
Can you recommend a good coffee pot for her? |

Good luck in your search! I'm in the market too because my coffee maker is older than I am. It's a counter craft brand from the 70's. oddly it makes coffee like a pro but I'd like a programmable pot so coffee is waiting for me as opposed to the other way around.

a keurig is terrible for the environment (think about all those plastic cups left over).
My advice if she is concerned about fragility and breakage is to find a maker with a stainless steel urn. There are several great manufacturers out there. Another option is a stainless steel 'french press' (Bodum is a brand and IKEA has a very good one for cheap while you can get them at Starbucks too). French presses make the best coffee too and are very friendly for the environment. I travel and camp with my french press on account of the fact it is unbreakable. |

We had a Keurig. Too expensive for all the little cups, and the one I used for my own coffee didn't work well at all. I bought a Bella coffee maker and it works fine.

"one cup only" portions of coffee). Most cups and mugs should fit into the pour-through space where the coffee would percolate, and there usually is a selector switch for cups or mugs. The best coffee pot of all would be a Bunn, of the kind used in offices and coffee shops. Unless I have access to an office supplies store or a wholesaler, however, all I can do about that is dream on. ![]() Last edited by Douglas MacNeill; Oct 21, 2016 at 01:37 PM. Reason: aesthtics |

I have them and have recommended a Cuisinart: Brew Central (DCC-1200) for decades. It makes 1-4 cups quickly or a full pot up to 12 cups if needed,. Easy to maintain. Cheap filters: a water one that lasts and one for the coffee. There are no kcups to throw away and better for the environment. It has a programmable timer too and timer to stay heated for automatic off after a certain time, which I appreciate because I forget to turn it off.
![]() I had to replace the one after 15 years because it got dropped when packing it in a move; the other has been going for 18 years now. I got another recently for work, and it is doing really well with constant use. There are businesses around here that use it. Friends, who love it as well. Take a look, perhaps this might be what she is looking for. Good luck finding the right fit! ![]()
