I follow a show called Metalocalypse religiously and the season 2 finale ended with the death of my favorite character. I was so distraught with his death I cried and even when season three came in the mail I wasn't ready to move on. I mourned his death for over a month, I was just so upset. Well, I finally got the courage to see what happens to the other characters and how they'd move on with his death. I watched the first episode thinking to myself, "Oh god, this is the end. It's not even that funny anymore, are they completely done with the comedy? How are they gonna pull through?" The characters got put in a really bad situation and it seemed like it'd be the end, but then, what's this? IT'S HIM! HE'S BAAAAAAACK!!!!!! WOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! I literally stood up and started clapping and cheering. I was happy ending the binge watch with only after the first episode. I have to let it sink in that all is right in the world.

Is there a fandom or a book or TV show or movie where you get so attached to the characters that when something happens you just have such a huge exaggerated reaction to it? That's definitely how I felt with my favorite character. I was so heartbroken when he was dead and now I am over the moon that they brought him back. It's just a huge relief that he's back and he's okay, and they left a clue that there's more than just bringing him back and I can't wait to see what happens next. Phew! HE'S BACK!!!!!

I can think of 2

chrissy rock (who is 1 of my fave actresses), played a hotel manager called janey york in the tv series benidorm (UK comedy)

after 4 series of the show, the writer didn't want to write anymore episodes, but when the channel convinced him, he did write more episodes (but decided not to bring back janey york)

I was really upset by it, to the point where I started looking on amazon for dvds of her in other things (things that actually sounded boring), but needed to get it just to see her act and hear her voice

as for benidorm, I did eventually start rewatching it (please don't kill of jeff though!)

the other one was cammeron murray in a soap opera I watched.

I loved him, and when he went to prison, it was announced that he'd been written out the script and would not be returning

so, I felt really sad about it, and went about creating my own peace of fan fiction- what would happen to cammeron if he was still here?

I also found the actor's name, and found he was in a police drama so I started watching that, which sort of took my mind off the fan fiction.

again, I did start rewatching the programme, but like a year after he quit the show (and I felt so guilty for missing so much)

actually a third example

becky from tv series utopia

at the end of the second series, she turned in to a zombie, then the channel canceled the show and i was on the edge of my seat.. you're not gonna tell us what happens to her next?. you're not gonna make a third series?

I never get into anything that deeply & emotions are for my REAL WORLD living. I am definitely not the kind of person they make their money off of. When I was young & went to the movies with my best friend...the bloody parts were always...."great technicolor blood" so thats how I grew up too. But in the 60's things came across less real than they do today with advsnced technology & usually better performers.....still dont get that involved but one movie I watched did trigger my PTSD at the time

I love this question!!!
Mine is Dr. John Watson in the BBC series Sherlock. When I watched The Reichenbach Fall I cried for what Sherlock put John through. It felt especially personal to me because my late first husband committed suicide, so watching John try to talk Sherlock out of what to him must have looked like a genuine suicide was really tough emotionally. My late first husband died over a decade ago, but I had kids to raise, so I guess I never really grieved a lot.
Even though you know Sherlock is still alive at the end of TRF, it didn't make me feel better really, because I was so upset and hurt that Sherlock could do something like that to John, that he could hurt John so much.

Well, I agree, but then John knew Sherlock was a high functioning sociopath and being a doctor John would know the ramifications of befriending a sociopath, and he may have even suspected that Sherlock was still alive, Sherlock being a genius at deception. Because that's essentially the meaning behind what he said at Sherlock's grave. I love the BBC series even though they make the fans wait far too long for new episodes. John Watson is every bit a complex character as Sherlock. I love them both. PS Sherlock is a brat.

When Sirius Black was murdered I thought J.K. Rowling had gone too far. Still do.

Never had that kind of emotional response to fiction or real life. I did hate it though when Gandalf went over the Cliff in LOTR and dumbedore bought it in Harry Potter. I like good wizards.

Haha, you say you don't have emotional responses but this sounds pretty heartfelt. I think Dumbledore knew he was dying, or had to die, something like that. J.K. Rowling kills off far too many characters.

I have to admit,,,,I was a real little kid when the movie Bambi was re-released in 1957 (4 years old). It was probably the first movie I ever went to & when my child mind realized that Bambi's mom was killed by a hunter I sat there in my movie theater seat with huge tears streaming down my face silently crying for Bambi's loss.

OMG I was near your age then, too, and I think I came out of the theater traumatized! Also, the forest fire scenes traumatized me because where I lived sometimes lightning caused the woods to catch on fire. I would always think about the deer and their little babies getting lost. Horrible. (My Uncles were deer hunters and during hunting season their pick-up trucks would be piled high with dead deer. )
