When you're a kid they make you take naps but you don't want to. When you're grownup you want to take naps but they don't let you.

It's just not fair.

Naps mess with my sleep schedule. I enjoy them, but I never get a peaceful sleep at night when I do. It really is a Catch-22.

I love my naps when they happen due to legit tiredness, because it feels good to wake up rested.

However, I also tend to use napping as a way to pass time during days when I feel low, so it can also be a negative method of coping for me. I always ask myself before a nap why I'm taking one, just to keep myself in check.

I wonder if kindergartners force you to take a nap just to pass their time

Stress often makes me sleepy. If I'm in a situation where I can do so, stress naps (as I call them) does me a lot of good. If I'm at work, I just have to be miserable and suffer through it.

Sometimes the stress naps get out of hand if they're too long and/or too frequent, but usually they're good for me.

During one very low time in my life, when I briefly didn't have a job, I would sleep 14-18 hours a day just to escape. My feeling was that that was 14-16 hours closer to death, so it was worth it.

I usually push myself to the point of exhaustion before I can sleep. That started when I had nightmares from PTSD. I no longer get the nightmares but my body still thinks it has to be exhausted before it can really sleep for long periods of time.

This creates the fact that I sleep when I get to the point of exhaustion rather than by time of day which often turns into just POWER NAPS.

They don't want adults to take naps because they would rather enslave the adults to work absurd B.S work schedules while the children live their blissful little lives, unaware of the trials and tribulations that await them as they grow into adults.

They really should give us breaks to nap or chill as that would eliminate a lot of work related issues not to mention allow employees to perform better due to being under less stress.

But nooo. The system is ran by idiots lolol.

We are so alike in that way. That's one reason I want to just work for myself... I could get so much more done by working my natural circadian rhythm.

My meds make me drowsy (fending off the anxiety). I lie down but rarely do I sleep.

I'm with Moonlitwish that I need to move to a country that takes siestas. I have more productive days when I do.

I feel so fortunate to be able to sleep when I need to...because between the Major Depressive Disorder, GAD, and now hypothyroidism, sleeping when I want to, and feeling rested when I wake are almost non-existent things for me, these days.

My heart goes out to everyone who battles with sleep problems and/or any kind of fatigue.

I enjoy an afternoon nap after work, then going for a long walk or jog and play with my dogs at the park, then dinner and chill and finally sleep. I do not find a short nap, up to 90 minutes, kills my sleep unless I do not also get my 60 minutes of exercise in a day. If I don't get any exercise (even just 60 minutes of walking) and I take a nap, I will have trouble sleeping for sure. Also if I eat really fatty foods or overeat, I have trouble sleeping because I'm uncomfortable.

But my sleep is screwed from my disorders anyways, so I can't say how a normal person would be affected from a nap or not. Sometimes I can sleep for a 2-3 hour nap in the middle of the day and still get a good night's rest. There are too many factors at play for me.

But at least I sort of understand what kind of rest I need and how to care for myself that way so I get rest when I need it.

Naps are the best type of sleep, at least for me that is.
