When I scroll through social media I always compare myself to others. I tend to feel bad about myself when im scrolling through and see other people picture. I get jealous and insecure. I don't know why but it happens.

Once in awhile I will feel envious of someone else. But I like to think that everyone is jealous of one another in some ways. Plus everyone has their own problems in life. Keep your chin up and just put one foot in front of the other

I feel like a pink bunny in all the white, sticking out of normal, too much in the open. It hurts my ninja nature... but at the same time I have a wish for FB friends.

Welcome to PC!
![]() You must remember that on social media people portray themselves as they want to be seen. It may or may not be who they really are. (Mostly not, I think.) Anyone can go on there and post things that make them look like a good mother, father, friend, etc. You should probably not compare yourself to anyone on social media. Social media has it's uses, but many people use it to promote themselves rather than share real interaction with others. Surround yourself with people who like you for you rather than what you appear to be. ![]()

Yeah. It's toxic. We all seem to be feeling the same way in regards to how social media affects us in such a negative way. I'd rather just delete it and not look back, but I have to sign in to see stuff. There are a lot of pages you cannot access without logging in first, which I think is annoying. It also slows my laptop down if there are too many things embedded from "hotlinking" everything. Today, it's always Facebook that people use to advertise things, which kind of makes one feel that if you didn't have an account, you would not find out about things you know you would look forward to.
I must say that, in the past, I did have some good conversations with musicians on Twitter. They seem to be appreciative of their fans. When would you ever get somebody like Madonna replying to anyone's tweets? Likely never. She seems to be rather a controversial figure in pop culture anyway. And Lady Gaga wearing a meat dress was bound to upset PETA. What was she thinking about? There are some celebrities that get all this attention, that I feel is not warranted. But it's all here to stay, I'm afraid. |

That’s a pretty common reaction. Social psychologists have widely found that social media often makes people depressed. That’s why more and more people are getting away from it.

Potentially it may. That is exactly why I avoid it like the plague. It's funny because my friend and I were discussing this very same thing this afternoon when we got together. Don't want to be too negative because I do realize that it can be a positive experience for some. However, for me that probably would not be the case. Facebook reminds of the electronic version of 'brag letters' that sometimes accompany Christmas cards sent from friends or relatives. I cringe every time I unfold one that I've received, and tend to either not read it at all or just skim over it very quickly. I remind myself that this is someone's public side and doesn't really accurately portray their whole story. I wish people would be more humble and show not only the good, but the bad, and last (but not least) the ugly.

I never had trouble comparing myself to others on social media....I did have problems as it activated my delusions on several occasions and people attacked me on it. So yeah, it has hurt me. I'm sorry you struggle too.

I don't compare myself to others on FB. I know people who only show their good side. But I also have friends who spill their guts out in private groups. I hang on to those folks, keeping it real.

Facebook actually makes me feel lonely. I can't totally explain that but it does. I deactivate a lot and hide from the virtual world.

I use fb mainly for keeping up with kids, relatives and friends. Occasionally make a funny or deep post, but do not put my life or emotions on there. You can let it affect your life or not.
I would say if social media affects you negatively then you are safer not on it.

I think yes because I totally avoid it. I don't own a Twitter acct/Facebook acct....anything. I do have 2 email addresses that I rarely use and am a member of PC. I chat to a friend on Google hangouts. That's it. I wish I was able to engage social media more but my illness sees me isolating myself somewhat. I've been encouraged to join Facebook many times but I just can't get into it.

I hate how people use it to show off. I dont like it when people post everything they buy or get
It used to depress me but not so much anymore. |

Sometimes, but I try to avoid the rubbish and focus on the good of social media; a medium on which to be social.

I hate that I am constantly seeing the ugly side of family and acquaintances. Since Trump was chosen it has become vogue to be a racist, religiously intolerant, bigot. And, to my shock and horror people I know are on this band wagon. As a result my real life circle is getting smaller as I delete these people from my life. I would not have known about this horrible side of people had it not been for their social media presence.

It depends on my mood. When I'm depressed, I feel like 99% of my fb 'friends' are not real friends. I feel like deleting my account, but I stop myself. Even at my age, I feel like I don't fit.
But, when I'm in a good mood, I see it differently. I see that everyone is probably more or less like me. We're all lost and insecure! It is stupid to see everyone posting their meals and cute cat videos. But it's nice to be connected. P.s. I defriended my own mother and didn't refriend her!

Facebook never hurt me. It irritated me at times.
I quit Facebook last year but only because it was so darn time consuming. I think I was addicted to it! |

I bet Justin Timberlake regrets purchasing Myspace now. Ha-ha.
Seriously, though. Who even has a Myspace profile in this day and age? I do miss Bebo, because it had a nice layout. They revived it as some silly messaging app. It used to be a real website though, like Facebook. You could send people hearts (called 'love' only misspelled) like tokens, and you know my stance on pointless gimmicky things like that. Once Facebook took over it in terms of traffic, the husband-wife duo who founded Bebo chose to cancel it. If you want to join Tagged to chat to girls and guys, I recommend you do so with caution, but make sure you immediately adjust the email settings. From the jump, you'll be automatically subscribed to all manner of junk emails whenever you do anything on that site. |

it used to. not anymore. i deleted facebook, and unfollowed/unfriended certain people on instagram, twitter, and snapchat. the main people i follow are mainly artists, youtubers, etc. & close friends and/or acquaintances i wouldn't mind getting closer to. i think with fine tuning social media isn't that bad. in the end though, i don't find my browsing habits to be much productive.
