Hey, I've had this song on my mind all afternoon...one of those freaky things you can't get out of your head.
I'm going to post an obscure line and see if anyone can guess the song:

"That fine young preacher, Brother Taylor,
Dropped by today...
Said he'd be pleased to have dinner on Sunday,
Oh, by the way...."

I invite others to post obscure lyrics for us to guess.
Maybe will be moved to "games," I don't know.
Patty Can you guess the song?

You got it, Petunia!!!
"Papa said to Mama as he passed around the black eyed peas...
Well, Billy Joe never had a lick o' sense.
Pass the biscuits, please."

Great lyrics...a classic, which Bobbi Gentry wrote and also performed.
I always wondered what they were throwing off the bridge...something ominous for sure.

Yes, Bebop, they did, and I tried to watch it, with Robbie Benson...
I felt it never lived up to the mystery of the song!

Bobbi Gentry also wrote the song, "Fancy,"
"Here's your one chance, Fancy, don't let me down..."
Another song of tribulation.

Petunia...YOU rock! and you're right! I think I was always attracted to this song because my dad did this kind of work for a living.

Hi everyone:
I'm at home now recovering from my recent biopsy in my left breast again. This has been the fourth time too. It wasn't in the duct this time, though.
Anyway, the song in question is " Ode to Billy Joe" by Bobbie Gentry. I always thought the thing they threw over the bridge was a baby. The movie depicts something else.
I never put it together that his character was raped by a man and that's why he committed suicide.

The youtube lady looks like Celine Dion to me, but not sure.
