we love to sew. Just love it. YOu could do patchwork blankets, very easy and before you know ityou have ahuge blanket.

You could make cushion covers, place mats and napkins.

I've wanted to get into stamping, but the price of the stamps scares me off! Who likes to sew? We don't send out Christmas cards anymore... but would 12 birthday cards a year be worth the cost? Who likes to sew?

I gave my mom's treadle to my daughter... who left it out in the rain! Who likes to sew? So much for the wood cabinet and the machine rusted too bad to clean it up! Who likes to sew? Who likes to sew?

Wonder how many hours it would take to work off 300 calories a day? Who likes to sew?

I have treadle sewing maching sitting in my entry way. Has everything except the key to the accessory drawer. Lucky for me drawer was unlocked when I threw away the key.

In many ways they are a lot easier to control than the newer portable machines. When you stop foot stops, treadle stopped and manchine stopped. Now isn't that easy.

how cool, I didn't even know there were still some treadle machines out there! Funny to think of a drawer with a lock on a sewing machine.

Ain't THAT the truth!! This new machine insists on going until the needle is in the up position! Who likes to sew? What if I want it still in the fabric so I can turn a corner???? Who likes to sew? Who likes to sew? LOL I'm sure I can turn the wheel manually until the needle is in the fabric.

Keb! I'm registered for the ShopHop! I visited one fabric store and found some beautiful Christmas fabric for some aprons... big yellow and red pointsetias! Who likes to sew? Sure would be pretty with some shiny contrast around the edges. Who likes to sew?

Patterns are expensive and getting more so all the time. One thing I did learn was to make a copy of the pattern on that fabric that has the grid lines on it. That way the original is still there for reference and I can play with the copy.

I have seen sites and books that show how to make a pattern from another garment. Like if you have a favorite shirt you can copy it making a pattern to use. I always wanted to do that as I wear nurses scrubs to work and thought I could make them cheaper.

That's pretty much what I had in mind for that black hoodie I was talking about. Who likes to sew?

No, I don't quilt, but SweetSunshine is talking me into it. Who likes to sew? Keb sent me some links that I've been checking out that have shophops. Who likes to sew? I didn't know they had them locally, though. Will check into that really soon. Who likes to sew?

Thanks!

I use to have a book on changing the look of ready made clothes but gave it to my daughter-in-law. Still have my book on making sewing patterns but it's too technical for me.

Yes, scrubs are fairly easy to make and look like they would be comfortable to wear. Can't remember where I saw the pattern (McCalls, Butterick, Simplicity). www.sewingpatterns.com has a pretty good selection of patterns. A lot of styles now come in multi-sizes patterns.

Using multi-sized patterns convinced me to start copying patterns. if I lose (oh please, oh please) or gain a size I can still re-use the pattern. One year I made 25 hippy vests ranging in size from 6-8 to 12-14 using only 2 store bought patterns.

I like sewing but find it hard lately to find the time to get out my sewing machine and sew. Patterns are expenive, but Walmart and Johann Fabric's have a section of lower priced ones. I check out used book stores and thrift stores for sewing and crochet books and sometimes find patterns for sale that have never been opened. So I have quite a collection of books and patterns to choose from.
My Mother sews quilts and makes clothes. Her Mother sewed everything on a treadle machine. She could hand sew and patch jeans and remade clothes from used clothing and etc... I am not that good, but like trying for the fun of doing it.

Here's a link that will take you to one fabric outlet but it's also a link to a "shophop" where you can visit other fabric places. Maybe we can get Kebfroggy to post those links that she sent me, eh, Keb? Who likes to sew?

FabricShopHop

EDIT: It wasn't me that said I had seen BOOKS, was it? Who likes to sew? I know they have them new at fabric stores but I checked out the price of one a long time ago and it scared the pee water out of me! Who likes to sew?

http://www.fabshophop.com/main.asp - this site has a fabric shop hop going on right now (October)

http://www.quiltindex.com/Index.aspx - this site just finish their "mall crawl"

http://www.anilee.net/ - this site has a treasure hunt which has just started

</div></font></blockquote><font class="post">

What I like about playing is visiting over 100 different fabric sites. The lists of shops keeps track of which ones you have visited. If you use their "favorites" option you can isolate those shops you want to revisit with a short "why" comment. Your eligable for prize drawings and selected shops have member specials through out the game.

I know for sure the top 2 have big games during Nov-Dec that are full of holiday specials and mark downs.

They are great past times for when there is nothing to do but house work. Who likes to sew?

My stepmother use to stand in front of a store window and look at a dress and sketch it and then go home and make her own pattern using brown wrapping paper! She didn't think it was anything special that she could do that.

Here's some online help for making one's own patterns:

http://patternsthatfityou.com/Default.htm

http://www.essortment.com/hobbies/ma...gpatt_syhw.htm

Here's a couple more lists of online fabric stores and resources:

Your stepmother had a very special talent. Her ability to make the sketches and transfer that to pattern piece, I think is amazing.

Here is a site that supposedly has free patterns. The patterns are for everything from knitting and crocheting to sewing and quilting. I can't remember if I've used the site but I found it in my favorites list of suppliers.

www.freepatterns.com

Happy sewing!!
