I had a link you all might enjoy. It is a little business called, Home-Sew Inc. at P.O. Box 4099, Bethlehem, PA 18018-0099 or on the web go to http://www.homesew.com
They have laces and thread, ribbons and buttons, some material, as well as, books and other supplies. Their prices are really reasonable. I have always been happy with my orders.

Went to the fabric store yesterday with the intention of buying white satin and lace for a christening gown for my Lee Middleton newborn. What I came away with was a lightweight cotton and cotton lace. Oh, well. The satin was more than I wanted to pay for and it's harder to sew on... sorta. The patterns I found, both for dolls and real babies were $13 and $15!! Who likes to sew? So... I didn't buy any pattern.

I undressed the doll last night and layed a piece of paper against her body parts and cut one of my own, with a few adjustments here and there. I'm using a scrap piece of cloth to cut the bodice and the sleeves to see how it works. I'll go from there. From the pattern I made for the dress, I cut one for a slip. The skirt, I remember my mom taking a square/rectangle piece of material and gathering it. Right now, though, I'm torn as to whether to cut a circle for the skirt... or the rectangle. I've got enough material for a circle... but we'll see. I don't think christening gowns are THAT full. Who likes to sew?

ALSO!!! I found a scrap piece of faux suede for the dinning room chair seat covers! It was only $6 a yard and I needed 4 yrs. WoooooooHooooooooooooo! I'm in business! I think I did really good! Who likes to sew?

Sewing machine, get ready... 'CAUSE HERE I COME!!! LOL

You will find free patterns on these sites.

www.charitablecrafters.org/Sewing.htm
http://www.carewear.org/

You have to wind your way through to find what you are looking for. They have sewing, knitting and crochet patterns and information.

My youngest son was 2 months premature. Finding clothes tiny enough was very difficult. I found these sites and used the patterns for making his clothes.

I later became involved in making burial gowns for God's Littest Angels.

i am just finishing up a jacket for my husband. he is going to be the pirate captain jack sparrow, last year i made most of it this year he will add the jacket to his ensemble. i will post pics when he is all dressed up.

i am also planning to make peguin costumes for my daughter husband and myself. there is a montser parade in town every year and we thought it would be a riot to see 3 penguins marching down the road.

Make sure you stitch their legs together so they have to walk funny like penguins! :-)

What fun!!!

One of my grandson's birthday is on Halloween. His parents always have a block party. There's been years that I wanted to dress up but never managed to get any costume made. Was thinking a while ago that I could go as a pumpkin. My body shape is perfect for that! LOL I could paint my face and hair green as the stem? The baby grandson wouldn't like that, though. I doubt that I'll get motivated enough to do THAT.

I have a grandson with a Halloween birthday too. In fact I have one grandson who is a warlock and the other is a TD (tax deduction).

It is a good thing one was born Halloween and the other on New Year's Eve. At least I'm able to remember their birthdays.

It's a smidge tight but on a doll... what the heck! It will work! I'm not going to redo those sleeves! Put too much work into them! Who likes to sew? Her hands look so sweet poking out of the lace!!! AWWWWWW! hehehe

I've earned my self a nap and my back is hurting me from bending over the sewing machine, so...

TTYL! Who likes to sew? Who likes to sew?

Ok... this is for a doll? Of you used a doll as a mock baby? How will it fit the baby? How soon is the Christening? Will the baby gain weight? Who likes to sew? Too many questions?!

Got a pic??? Who likes to sew?

You made that quickly! "Have sewing machine, will sew!"

The new sewing machine is GRRRRRRRRREAAAAAAAT!!!! I used it to make some fancy stitches on the sleeves, that, and shiny thread. Who likes to sew?

No, I'm not ready for the next project. I still have to put the slip together, which will be much, much easier and then sew the bodice to the skirt.

I was thinking last night, that I could have made the gown in a couple of days if I'd stayed at it, but my back starts hurting and I have to quit. Who likes to sew? It's sure been fun, though!

The next project is going to be a whole lot easier; it's just four cushion covers. Who likes to sew?

Can't wait to get the gown finished and on the doll. You'll have some pics then. Who likes to sew?

Who likes to sew? I'm going right now! Who likes to sew?

Cool pics!! I enjoyed looking at all of them! Your husband looks cool as Capt. Sparrow. Who likes to sew? I love your gown! If I absolutely had to pic a favorite quilt, I guess it would have to be the Gardenstar, but I liked them all!

Would you say you spend a lot of time at the sewing machine? I wonder if I could ever gather as many FINISHED projects as you seem to have. LOL

thanks for the compliments

i don't spend as much time sewing as i used to . to avoid the realworld and my depression i was sewing 8-10 hrs a day . i love the process of sewing and the finish results gives me a great sense of accomplishment. i started sewing partly because being a stay at home mom i was in charge of the house and kids and anyone who had done that knows at the end of the day there is still laundry, dirty dishes and alike to do. i wanted to produce something that would say i was productive today .
