A couple of years ago another person said that I was an empath. I have never heard that term before but it made so much sense when I looked into it.
Yes. It sounds like empathy here is blue, one color, and it seems to have a dominant frequency. Empathy is a color coded frequency and an empath is one born out of this color coded commonality of human experience. The red empath then is obviously tuned to the brighter side of living reflecting the joy in another's happiness. This red empath too is born out of the commonality of pleasant human experience. Thus, it seems here that empathy is a binding gift born out of either happy or sad common human experience and not taught as a component in Assertiveness Training. Is empathy innate or learned? Is it true that as children we found our empathy for pain is accepted and our empathy for pleasure rejected? Is it true that our "sensitivity" to another's pain is appreciated and our appreciation of another's happiness is likely to be scorned? How does an empath really feel? Let us empathize the feelings of the true empath.

I was unaware that there were blue empaths or red ones. Can I please move over to the red side?

Either way I dont think this can just be taught but somehow wired into a person character and the experiences are building blocks to further pain/pleasure depending what those life experiences are.

Some of my friends are so unaware of their impact on me. Not their fault that I am so easily overwhelmed.
Thanks for this!

Empaths are very special. I researched the word in 3 popular if not standard dictionaries. One refused to acknowledge that the word exists, another espoused our current meaning, and a third seemed to cover both by espousing our meaning and, at the same time, defining the whole empath concept as a sham ego propping farce. I think empaths can be supportive even if in need of support themselves.

Bonus:yes, I would consider myself empathetic, compassionate, yet a bit guarded and keep an emotionally detached wall up at times. But I compensate through listening.

A sham? An ego propping farce? I can be so supportive that I feel like I have taken on another persons issues which is not good when I am in need of help at times myself. I can at times feel what somebody in the next room is feeling. It can be disabling when being in crowded places. Grrr....... Sigh.

Dont mind me. Not quite myself.

52 out of a possible 80

I often feel as if I am TOO empathetic. I will cry if I see an animal or person in pain. The other day I rescued a frog from my pool and I sat him in the grass and I think he was dead and I was so upset at the thought of him drowning that I had to go lay down for like two hours lol.

O.K. Let's take a closer look at empathy defined as sensitivity to another's suffering. 52 out of a possible 80 is almost a failing score (65%). Now. This speaks positively of the questionnaire when we consider that what you felt for the little frog was more than likely guilt and not empathy by your own description. Assessing what a drowning frog/human might feel we first encounter panic. I surmise that panic would persist to the final moment of acceptance and surrender. Accurate empathy worthy of at least a C without using the questionnaire. The frog felt no pain, it only felt the need to survive.

Here we touched upon my reservation regarding the designation "empath" the terms tendency to reference a mind reading telepathic clairvoyant. The term "empath" easily lends itself to the unscientific like mysticism.

A score of ~ 61% is collegiately a D - . It speaks poorly of the questionnaire's ability to detect your empathy and compassion.

I do not believe for one minute that I can read minds, nor would I want to. I can assume as much as the next person does. Not even sure how a telepathic clairvoyant can do what they. All I know is that I can feel too much and it hurts.

It sounds like you have a sympathetic character reference which might easily disguise itself as empathy. Either way you apparently care about the plight of others. I think that's needed here on earth.

Some people say "I am an Empath" as to mean they are "Super beings" which they are not. Anymore than if low empathy beings are "super beings".

Thanks for the link. My score was 65/80. I do consider myself as an empathic person so I was not surprized.
