I pretty much exclusively come here and a language-learning site (if that can even be counted as a social network, since there's no "friending" or PMs) and Youtube, I guess (ditto, but to a lesser extent... or greater, depending on your interpretation, but I don't engage in the community there). I'm on a local Facebook clone, but I'm almost non-existent there...

Anyway, I've been wondering lately, what social networks people actually use, and especially which are useful, or beneficial.

I guess it might not provide a solution for me, because the networks I've already listed are probably great for some people, but kind of don't work for me, in as much as they are supposed to.

The problem is, I haven't met any really "like thinkers" if that makes sense. It's nice here, but I can only relate to people on an extremely limited range of topics and I don't expect to encounter someone like me due to my own eclectic and limited range of interests. At the same time, if I search for those interests in the wide expanse of the Internet, I find communities that are usually in a clear state of decay. In fact, I've recently discovered that several sites that I quite recently signed up to don't exist anymore.
Thanks for this!

PC is great and I love so many of the good people here.
I also spend a lot of time on a fishing site, it's great for me, it gives me a place to
talk about what I love and have a laugh with a lot of great guys and gals.
I also have recently started on a treasure hunting site which is also pretty good with
a lot of people sharing info and tips.

I used to have Facebook, but got disconnected from it. I had activated it again after years of being away, but honestly, nothing really changed. I still have it up and look occasionally. Some people think it can be damaging, but I think it's okay if you look in moderation as with anything else in life.

The only social network that I am on these days is Twitter. I tune in with other Star Trek fans and watch the Star Trek shows with them on a channel here. We all follow the hashtag for the TV channel and follow along and comment as it airs. It's a lot of fun because it's like watching your favorite show with a bunch of like-minded people.

I avoid most of the popular social networks like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. I think most people in my family do, too. I find there's too much noise on them and they eat up a lot of time.

I do like forums and community websites for things like programming or music.

I only have FB but I deactivate it all the time for weeks on end. There are things on fb that are big triggers for me. Other wise I have no interest in social media.

I deactivated my FB account and set up a vague page for keeping up with authors and such. Other than that and here I don't use any.

YouTube If my go to for so many things...from repair, knitting techniques, comedy, sermons, news, & just stuff to make you think.

Pintrest is my other go to especially for recipes, patterns, crafts....even fencing & barn ideas for my farm....nothing you cant find on there too though I dont actually connect with people anywhere except here at PC & on FB

I really enjoy Facebook. I've had my ups and downs with PC, unfortunately.

I dont consider psych central a "social networking site" for me psych central is a mental health website where I can come to help others with their mental health problems that I have had problems with, let people know what I and my own treatment providers are/ have done and if Im having a hard time I come here and read posts about the same issues, which gives me ideas on what to do about my problems, I also reach out to those that have the same problems that I do but in a more private way so as to not trigger others. not many people understand and can handle the integrated issues that I have.

the sites that I do consider social networking sites are places like facebook, twitter, instagram, pintrest, tumbler, reddit all of which my wife and I have accounts both personal and work related. (though we use different user names for each one, the professional ones are under the work related agency name and the personal ones are under made up names where we invite or tell those we want to know how to find us)

example my wife and I have our own pinterest accounts but I do not use the name Amandalouse nor my given name for it, my facebooking accounts do not have Amandalouise nor my given name nor my pinterest name for user names.

in short each one of my social networking/ blogging sites have their own email and user names attached to them.

I use each one of my social networking accounts about 3 days a week and completely enjoy them.

for example facebooking many find problems with all the drama, fake news and garbage on them. me I treat all that stuff like we did when we had junk mail coming to our mailboxes outside attached to the house... I can read it knowing what I read may upset me or I can just ignore it, throw it in the trash (delete/block) or report it to facebook. (facebook now has options for reporting offensive or fake news articles.) when I go on facebook its to chat with my co workers, or family or friends, its to play the games, its to keep my co workers, family and friends updated on my life and family. on occasion like in real life sometimes bickering/ fighting happens and I can choose whether to get involved or stay out of it. I dont get a lot of problems with spammers or strangers and such activities because my settings are where only co workers, friends and family can contact me and see my posts. each one of my facebook accounts are set up in such a way that for example my friends and family dont have to see a bunch of my work related postings and my co workers dont have to see a bunch of my family oriented postings.

I strongly dislike FB as it consists of bunch of triggers for me.
I only come here, to PC where I can be anonymous.
I find instagram to be helpful because I only follow the accounts of baby animals, nature photography, tiny homes, etc.
I also have a fb account which i merely use to be part of a mindfulness workshop group. That is it.

I sometimes like Instagram because there's always friends who post insta-stories so sometimes when I'm feeling a bit anxious, I can see what people are up to so I don't feel so alone. But it's a double edge sword, especially when particular people I want don't post anything.

This is it. I have a pintrist account but don't socialize on it. I'm thinking of getting fb for my family but have heard such horror stories about how they feed you fake news and use your interests to target you with ads. I have very limited internet footprint and find my friends inbetween the covers of books.

Youtube is my favorite. You can find just about anything on there. I’m not into Fb or instagram at all.
