So I get SSI ($750/month) and I go to school with a disability waiver (I pay $75 and the rest of the fees are waived). I got a form in the mail from the school that looks like a tax return and says $510. I don't understand what I'm supposed to do-I've never been sent this before. Do I have to pay $510? Will I get in trouble if I don't send it in??

Okay, I think I may now understand what you were asking about earlier.

The waiver you received is considered taxable income, so you received a W-2 for it. The total waived was $510. You do not owe $510. But you may owe tax on that $510. If anything, it would be a very low amount.

If this is the only income you had all year (besides your SSI) then you should not have to file a tax return.

I am not an expert. I just looked this up online. You should be fine not filing if that was the only income you had besides your SSI all year.

SSI isn't considered taxable income.

No matter your country, your government taxation/revenue agency will have a way of contacting them to ask questions. Usually that is a 1-800 number. You can find it online or in the phone book where federal government agencies are listed.

Actually IF total income including SSI/SSDI is above a certain amount then the total is taxible but this small amount would not put the taxable income above that taxible amount then only the amount above that income level gets taxed but SSI /SSDI income is included in determining that gross income amount.

That mostly catches those with the highest SSI/SSDI incomes who work also.
