Where everybody knows your name!

Welcome to the lobby bar of the General Social Chat Forum. Think of this thread as your happy little corner cantina to hang out in and talk about whatever you like at a more leisurely pace than chat. Yes, some people actually prefer to hang out on forums rather than in chat. It’s a place for the regulars—and everyone is welcome to be a regular. No matter what, someone will always respond for you to strike up a conversation with.

That’s the point. We get out what we put into it.

Feel free to post pics (I use tinypic with no problem) of funny stuff, whether it’s your cat’s antics (Bring your kitteh to the Cantina day on Caturday!) or a hilarious meme you just found. Gif posting is looked upon favorably, as is coming in saying hi and striking up convos about anything that you fancy.

So, while you’re cruising other threads in this area open another tab and come hang out here with your friends (and make new ones) here in the cantina.

As for the name…I was reminded of this forum thread type from another site, but that was a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away…Since I happened to be an OEU Star Wars fan, I chose a name from a fan-fic of mine I never finished.

There are a few rules, however.

1. Use either the @ before someone’s name so you can keep track of your conversations and so can others, or quote the post. Simple.

2. No stealing bar glasses and drifting to other threads.

3. No bringing drinks or food from other threads into the Blue Nebula. Seriously. The Blue Nebula cannot be held liable when your whiskey sour suddenly turns into a Corellian Blue Ale because you wandered in with it in your hand.

4. Any drinks ordered must have ridiculous-sounding names. This is to prevent confusion with actual alcoholic drinks, which we are unfortunately neither zoned nor licensed to sell.

5. References to Hitchhiker’s Guide To the Galaxy earns you double points, as do vague Star Wars, Simpsons, or Family Guy references.

6. Attempting to use those points in any way is not allowed, mostly because all the drinks and use of the juke box is free (but the rest rooms have a cover charge of $5, payable in only in Krugerands or sapphires, not points). Punishment shall be listening to William Shatner's rendition of Rocket Man.

7. Be respectful (we’re here to build one-another up, not tear each other down) and be mindful that younger readers come in. That means no flashing your lightsaber around or attempting to mind-trick the bar tender, or telling people you have the death sentence in twelve systems.

8. Using “42” as an answer for any question that you don’t know the answer to is not only acceptable, it earns you a free pan-galactic gargle blaster, which you then must drink while reciting the Emperor’s lines in a funny voice.

9. Asking for a refund will only get you the drink or food refunded in pennies and pocket lint. The pocket lint is extra, but you won’t be charged.
That’s it.

For the patrons who prefer visual aids…

The Bar:

The Blue Nebula Cantina

The Patrons:

The Blue Nebula Cantina

The Bouncers/Moderation Staff:

The Blue Nebula Cantina

And the bar tender:

The Blue Nebula Cantina
(Don't worry, he doesn't bite, and he's had his rabies shots)

A brief Q&A session to explain:

Wait, what kind of bar is this??

But I'm just lonely and need a place to hang out!
We're no strangers to love...

Are you even allowed to make this kind of thread?
You know the rules and so do I...

How long are you planning on sticking around?
A full commitment is what I'm thinking of...

You're kind of a smartass, you realize this, yes?
You wouldn't get this from any other guy...

But I thought this was a forum for "feelings?"
I just wanna tell you how I'm feelin'...

You're confusing me!!
Gotta make you understand!

Click
here for the rest of the Q&A session...

Enjoy!
Hello there. Stopped in for a quick fuzzy pink kitten, I dont know sounded good and needed to wet my whistle. I was the only one here. Be back again!

Well, I had it. I had heaven in my hands. She was beautiful, perfect, everything I want. I should have known it was too good to be true. Never bet against the Pattern, folks. The Pattern always wins. All because she wanted to make spaghetti sauce, and I asked her if she was going to use Italian sausage. How stupid is that? The Pattern has me so ground down that It doesn't even try to put in effort to at least make my inevitable falls amusing.

****, I think I need to go self-injure since tonight has really crystallized the fact that some human beings have zero intrinsic value, and I happen to be one of them. Not like it really matters anyway since all of life is nothing but a farce.

Sorry, y'all, I was teleported (without my consent, suddenly and quietly, but semi-permanently) to MACS0647-JD. (MACS0647 is a candidate, based on a photometric redshift estimate, for the farthest known galaxy from Earth at a redshift of about z = 10.7 - 11, equivalent to a light travel distance of 13.3 billion light-years (4 billion parsecs).)

It's taken me some serious cash, and some fancy footwork, to get back here.

Hugggs, y'all.

Man, I really needed that hug tonight. I'm so ****ing ugly on the inside, man, if you guys only knew. But I can only be me, and try to be a better person every day. Thanks, guys.

By the by...

The internet has disproven Einstein. Yes, you read that right. The internet proved "spooky action at a distance," or the ability for particles to spontaneously synchronize across any distance in violation of the speed of light.

Special Relativity, I hardly knew ye. Also watched A Waking Life, had a bad trip, and haven't been right in the head since. Breaking point in the movie came when a random character crosses the screen and tells the protagonist, "As the Pattern becomes more intricate and subtle, being swept along is no longer an option."

Are you @#$%^& kidding me??! I theorized the existence of the Pattern! Long before I ever saw this movie or heard of Sartre or anyone else. Totally blew my mind to hear my ideas be spoken aloud in a movie I never saw.

Synchronicity nothing. It says something rather frightening that I could have this Pattern theory and this guy, whom I've never met or even seen his work, has similar ideas that are almost identical. What is really going on? How is that possible??!

I'm sure you're not ugly. I guess Einstein wasn't right about everything. He was right that the internet can be "spooky" as there is the deep web and a lot of scams and such.

lol I'm still trying to wrap my head around whether or not I'm dreaming this life. Thanks, Richard Linklater. Part of me fears the Pattern is my blinking clock cluing me in that I'm still asleep. How's that for delusory?

Anyhoo, just laying here chillin' like a villain. Gellin' like a--wait a minute! lol Got my yard work mostly done. And tomorrow, I get to go back up to my gf's house!

Yeah, it's great being by her. It's like everything is finally right when I'm with her. It's just the days when I'm not with her that it becomes hard to endure. Talk about a screaming codependency issue...lol

lol I know, I know...it's pathetic, but I can't help it. I'm maintaining fairly well so far, and one thing I've really come to realize is that I am going to have to force myself to see someone. The idea of talking to a psychologist I don't know again is panic-inducing. It takes me longer than most to really get to trust a psychologist, and I think it's more the idea of investing all that time, only to realize that I'm just a paycheck. For me, I have to make a human connection with them so that they see me as more than just some random person paying them to talk about bat-shtako craziness. lol My last one, I really felt was my friend because we'd both been through some stuff and saw some stuff in the same institution, and I had been talking to her for years. I felt that she cared about me as a human being.

I dunno...I'm rambling. How's everyone's night? Anyone watch Stranger Things?

For me, it's emotions that always seem to rally against me. Love, schmuv! (Kidding.)

I arrived at the conclusion long ago that anyone who isn't willing to work with you on things isn't worth your tears/ heartache/ emotional investment. Life takes work, no matter what else is going on. If someone can't work with you, they might not be all you imagine them to be.

I really hope things stay copa for a while for you, M2W. You seem like a pretty o.k. person. Very bright and really fun.

It helps to know how others really see us. Please try and keep that in mind, when emotions run wild, and attempt to play kickball with our hearts.
