guilloche, I didn't drive by the guy to get to the house. All I could see was some guy sitting in a car up close to the end of my house. When I say I parked close to the door, I mean like a few feet from the door. I was out of the car and in the house is a few steps. I did consider not getting out of the truck, but figured I'd be safer in the house than trapped in the car.
No, the police officer did not arrest the yahoo! ![]() ![]() |

Ask yourself are you awfulizing the situation? AKA thinking irrationally/exaggerating things beyond reality? Consider the thought that no life is without occasional challenges and you are no different. So go to work. There is no one answer solves all so all the small things you do can add up to a big help. In time this will pass. |

I have my own problem with very sketchy cars in the neighbourhood. It all seems to involve one house on the neighbourhood. As that house sits across from us we must deal with all that goes on - including these cars being parked in front - often across our driveway. Occasionally the occupants remain in their vehicles. I've had to a few times approach a dump of a car with scary people and ask them to move.

Ok..I look at peoples pets, yards, landscaping, etc. when I go by an interesting dwelling, but I don't park and stare at it. This would bring out my territorial aggression reaction. Big time.

Well, it's been about 2 weeks now, and the car hasn't returned (that I've noticed). I work from home, next to a window that faces that direction, so if he was coming back I'd likely notice it. I'm starting to feel a bit better. Like I said, lesson learned... next time I'll be more careful to not attract any attention.
LizardLady - I'm stunned that the cops let that guy drive himself back to his friend's house. That's really frightening to me. And, I'm glad that you kept safe, and didn't have to walk past his car or anything! I hate having to think about stuff like this, but I think it's good to be aware and be cautious... even if the odds are low, it's good to watch out for bad situations. Kreg - thanks for the advice! I do have a backdoor to escape. I can't really come in that way, unfortunately, because the lock seems to be stuck (it's on my list to have it looked at) - but it opens fine from the inside. And, I never open the door when someone knocks. I live alone, unless I'm expecting someone, the door stays locked. There's no really good reason to be answering the door, as far as I'm concerned... The "awfulizing" is a good point. My T was a little concerned for my safety when it happened, but also pointed out that realistically, it would be an extreme reaction for this guy to come back and break in to my house. (My worry was that yes, it's extreme - but some people are crazy like that, and I don't know anything about this guy.) Anyway, I took precautions and am OK now. I do probably need to do some research on the hotels in the area b/c the first night, I thought about going to a hotel, and was too tired to look them up. I should probably have a couple places picked out in advance for emergencies. Thanks! JustaFriend - So sorry that you're dealing with sketchy cars and the people across from you. That sounds scary and frustrating. Ugh. I'm sorry ![]() Medusax - I understand, I like to look at really nice houses too as I'm driving (except it's hard when I'm driving, b/c I have to watch the road/traffic too). We have some really beautiful houses not far from me - like huge mansions. They almost look like palaces to me! I can't even imagine what it's like to live there! But, you're right... I don't pull over and just sit there! Thanks everyone. I'm feeling a lot better now. Thanks! |

Justafriend, Hmmm...sounds like the people who live there might be dealing?
guilloche, I definitely understand what your t said about the likelihood of someone breaking in after watching your home being very low, but (not to scare you!!!!) that thought would definitely cross my mind, too. I've certainly heard of such a thing happening, that's for sure. Anyway, I'm sure that man is long gone and won't be back. |

The thing that really bothers me is when I’m sitting at my window and someone sees me and then knocks on the door and try’s talking to me. First of all, why are you looking through my window? And second. F off.
This has happened twice. |

That happened here where I live a few days ago. I live right across the street from a school and the road in front of my house between my house and the school is not really a side road it's not a place where you can just stop and park but this guy did and he shut his engine off and reclined his seat and look like he was taking a nap it was really weird.

All week there have been at least a dozen cars out front on both sides of the street connected to that sketchy house in the neighbourhood. Most of the cars don't run properly and there is one with a flat tire. There is a lot of activity on the street these days as rather frightening looking young men have their noses under the hoods in efforts I guess to get the ramshackle vehicles started. I am not going to let my uncomfortableness around them run my life however and I sit on my deck anyway and watch the activity. This includes seeing the girls getting dropped off every hour by men in fancy cars (hmmm?) and people arriving and purchasing what I can only guess are 'hot' items. I dare not call the police though in fear of retribution.

The police won't do anything anyway and it's not worth the possibility of retribution. I really feel for you; I have definitely been in that type of situation. |
