Today I lost 17.8 pounds. So I am 0.2 pounds away from 18 pounds. But what do the decimal points mean? My scale goes from 0.1-0.9 and there is 16 ounces in a pound.

I feel very stupid for asking here but Google is not helpful today. I asked Google what the decimal point system means, and it showed me how to weigh meth, and another article provided instructions on how to step on a scale...Step one, remove clothes, step two, place your feet on the scale.... No. That's not what I want to know.

Sorry for such a stupid question. Its first thing in the morning and Im terrible at math even when Im fully awake.

If a pound is 16 ozs. Then .8 is 80% of 16 ozs. = 12.8 ozs

So I guess I can just round it to 18 pounds...no one but the doctor cares how many ounces I weigh.

I hate when you go buy meat or fish at the grocery store and you have to do this in your head. .6 lbs of fish - is that enough for one or two??

It gets a lot harder with 3-4 people. My parents and I just eyeball steak choices...can we eat this much? My mom always wants the smallest portion, too. And then my Dad will give me a range of pounds to choose from, and then you get there and all the steaks are shaped different with different thickness.

Here's what we have to deal with in Canada. We are metric yet the signage at the grocery prices produce at cost per pound. Fine, but we are charged in cost per kilogram. Maddening.

1/2 pound of meat per person, general rule of thumb. Brisket shrinks when you cook it and you better NEVER run short when feeding hungry Jewish people, lol.

Lol, thank goodness I live in a 100% metric country! But having to convert everything if I find a recipe or an article on an American site is a pain in the neck. And! When I see a recipe where they measure carrot in cups? Omg! How do I measure a cup of carrots! It's either grams or say a small, medium or large carrot. If I put it in a cup I'd get a different amount based on the size of the pieces or if it is grated vs cut... And why would I put a carrot in a cup, anyway?
Thanks for this!
