I often hear mentions of a weighted blanket. Have you tried it /do you use it?
Isn't it too hot in the summer? Doesn't the weight make you more anxious, like someone is lying on you and suffocating you? My sleep has imperoved a lot recently but it's still not 100%. So I'm wondering if this could help but not sure.

Good question. How are you with regular bedding? I myself must be always covered no matter the heat in the room right up to my nose. I doubt then I would get claustrophobic but wonder about the weight factor too. Just how heavy are these things?

I would absolutely love to own a weighted blanket. As long as my head is out I wouldn't feel at all suffocated. But weighted blankets are so expensive.

Personally I would feel panicky and confined by one. But then I have memories of people lying on me and suffocating me.
They were originally meant to be used by people with sensory processing problems (including people and children on the spectrum) |

I have a weighted blanket for depression and anxiety. I had it custom made for size, pattern and weight. I've had it for 1.5 years and it is my comfort space. Whenever I am struggling my best friend tells me to get under my blanket. I am claustrophobic as well, but the blanket feels more like a hug.

I made myself a little weighted lap blanket, and I think it's wonderful, but I don't sleep with it. As far as I know, they're not really made to be slept with. But when it's cool enough, I do have a heavy throw blanket I put on top of me. I find the pressure soothing, but it really depends on the individual.
I'd suggest testing how you feel about weighted blankets by piling a bunch of blankets and pillows on top of yourself. If the pressure calms you down, a weighted blanket might help you.

That sounds wonderful. Do you mind if I ask about how much your blanket cost? Thank you. |

If you have an old comforter, you could cut the sides and place weighted packaged sand in each pocket of the comforter. (In each "baffle" of the comforter. DIY Weighted Blanket | Jest_Tu_Positive Once you try one, you'll wonder how you did without it.

I have one. I don’t use it. It’s 17 pounds and too heavy and hot for most of the year. Mine was almost $200 and I’m worried about my cats ruining it. So I just keep it on a shelf.

Yes it was a lot of money. Yes it was worth it. When i was dealing with agoraphobia I literally would hide under blankets head to toe to cope. When I heard of these blankets I had to get one. |

I don't have a weighted blanket but there are times I get several heavy covers and put them over me. It does seem to help. I cover my entire body, head and all. Sometimes I will wrap myself up super tight in a blanket where I can breathe but barely move otherwise. I find it comforting to do either.
I remember reading about an autistic woman who designed special weighted blankets for animals during storms |

Thanks, Calla lily. Interesting idea to use rice or beans. It seems like beans could make a clicking sound when they move, but rice would be quiet. Sand would be excellent...there must be some type of craft sand that would be clean.
For me, having a weighted blanket just across my lower legs and feet would be great. It's a calming feeling, plus my legs and feet usually ache for whatever reason, and the weight feels soothing. |
