I often hear mentions of a weighted blanket. Have you tried it /do you use it?
Isn't it too hot in the summer?
Doesn't the weight make you more anxious, like someone is lying on you and suffocating you?

My sleep has imperoved a lot recently but it's still not 100%. So I'm wondering if this could help but not sure.

Good question. How are you with regular bedding? I myself must be always covered no matter the heat in the room right up to my nose. I doubt then I would get claustrophobic but wonder about the weight factor too. Just how heavy are these things?
Thanks for this!

I would absolutely love to own a weighted blanket. As long as my head is out I wouldn't feel at all suffocated. But weighted blankets are so expensive.
Thanks for this!

Personally I would feel panicky and confined by one. But then I have memories of people lying on me and suffocating me.

They were originally meant to be used by people with sensory processing problems (including people and children on the spectrum)
Thanks for this!

I have a weighted blanket for depression and anxiety. I had it custom made for size, pattern and weight. I've had it for 1.5 years and it is my comfort space. Whenever I am struggling my best friend tells me to get under my blanket. I am claustrophobic as well, but the blanket feels more like a hug.
Thanks for this!

I made myself a little weighted lap blanket, and I think it's wonderful, but I don't sleep with it. As far as I know, they're not really made to be slept with. But when it's cool enough, I do have a heavy throw blanket I put on top of me. I find the pressure soothing, but it really depends on the individual.

I'd suggest testing how you feel about weighted blankets by piling a bunch of blankets and pillows on top of yourself. If the pressure calms you down, a weighted blanket might help you.

That sounds wonderful. Do you mind if I ask about how much your blanket cost? Thank you.

Sounds like a good idea!

The blankets I've seen in catalogs are usually a bit over $100. I always wanted to try to make one. They are so comforting...I love them.

If you have an old comforter, you could cut the sides and place weighted packaged sand in each pocket of the comforter. (In each "baffle" of the comforter.

Once you try one, you'll wonder how you did without it.

I have one. I don’t use it. It’s 17 pounds and too heavy and hot for most of the year. Mine was almost $200 and I’m worried about my cats ruining it. So I just keep it on a shelf.

Around $250-300 CDN. The blanket is not made with pellets, it's made with weighted discs and I love the feeling. I also had it made by a local company who donates to charities and such. I always support local when I can.

Yes it was a lot of money. Yes it was worth it. When i was dealing with agoraphobia I literally would hide under blankets head to toe to cope. When I heard of these blankets I had to get one.

I don't have a weighted blanket but there are times I get several heavy covers and put them over me. It does seem to help. I cover my entire body, head and all. Sometimes I will wrap myself up super tight in a blanket where I can breathe but barely move otherwise. I find it comforting to do either.
I remember reading about an autistic woman who designed special weighted blankets for animals during storms

Thanks, Calla lily. Interesting idea to use rice or beans. It seems like beans could make a clicking sound when they move, but rice would be quiet. Sand would be excellent...there must be some type of craft sand that would be clean.
For me, having a weighted blanket just across my lower legs and feet would be great. It's a calming feeling, plus my legs and feet usually ache for whatever reason, and the weight feels soothing.
Thanks for this!

I wish I could feel that way, I could do with a hug. Closest I can get is having a mosquito net/tent around my bed - not for mozzies (we don't get them here) - it's my force field, helps me create my comfort zone at night, but no hugs

You spent that money well.
And thanks for the comfy picture .
