Hey everyone.

Christmas used to be a very stressfull time for me, as I'm guessing it can be for a lot of us. Even though I live alone and have little contact with family, I will strive to make this year's holiday as joyous as possible, and start 2019 on a positive note.

So I have made myself a list of things that need doing to facilitate a relaxed and positive holiday season.

First on my list was clearing out the spare bedroom of unpacked boxes, and making it pretty on the off chance that someone may stay over...Positive thinking.

Yesterday I ordered 1000 outdoor Twinkle lights...and strung my new Festoon Lighting on my veranda.

Maybe no one will pay me a visit this year, maybe I won't be invited anywhere..... but I have to start being positive and have a go at rejoining the world.

I will continue to post my productivity updates here on the lead up to the holiday season.......You are all welcome to do the same.

i'm sorry to hear that you'll probably spend xmas alone this year.

i usually spend the day with family and siblings' in-laws, but find it very stressful. thankfully i've got a couple of friends who have a dinner in the evening for everyone who doesn't have somewhere to go, or people who struggle with family christmasses. got good friends!

i'm really really broke at the moment so finding presents is going to be a struggle. i'm thinking of trying to paint things for people but i know they will feel inadequate

I find christmas a stressful time as well, which is why I welcome going into work on that day just to get away from the stress of spending the whole day around family

to the OP: I think that's a good way to look at things... you just need to make do with what you have and try and make the best of it

as for me... well I'm also spending christmas alone- so apart from a few presents I'll order myself, I won't have anything else

decoration wise, I'm hoping to get something (even if it's small), but not even looked for anything yet

and it's the same with christmas food- I've made a list of everything I am going to have on what day, but not actually ordered anything

I think I'll be okay with christmas, it's new year I worry about- always depresses me no end

My first thoughts were...why not invite people over if you're afraid no one will invite you? If you make the house nice, don't leave it empty, if you want to rejoin the world, you got to take that first initiative to invite people over, cuz in the real world, you have to go out and find your happy, there's no invitation waiting for you.

Wishing you a happy Christmas!

Cleaning and decorating for Christmas is a good idea. I never do either, but I think I would feel better if I did.

"People roasting on an open fire.....Jack Frost nipping at your nose...."

I am a big Christmas fan, but I'm sad when people have to be alone. I'm inviting a friend to my house for Christmas who has no relatives left.

I have just moved to a new State and bought a new house...I don't know anyone here. But I have made my house nice and hope some of my new acquaintances drop in over the holidays.

Good for you. that's a good way to start off the season and I, for one, will think about trying to make it as festive and positive as possible too. although you just reminded me about how much clutter I should get rid of myself XD

I'm still nervous about presenting my gifts of DVDs. We don't have a DVD player, but I heard they are cheap, but I am so nervous that it's the wrong gift to give, and half my presents are stacks of DVDs so I'm very nervous about it, what to say when I present it, whether or not I should buy a DVD player to go with it, how foolish of me to buy something we don't have anything to use it with...But the DVDs are all ones they will absolutely love, I have a big stack of their favorite classics.

I'm wondering what to say..."I got this idea when I went to the Friends of the Library. You told me no more books but I had to look, inside they had neon footprints leading to an area of collectibles, I saw this and scrounged up all my quarters because I absolutely had to get this for you because I know it was a rare find and that it's one of our all-time favorites. Then, shortly after that, I saw that Video Droid was selling all their DVDs and I got the rest of them there. I got so many DVDs that I was able to haggle with the cashier and I got a terrific deal on them. This stack right here is all the classics, I thought they were the most important because they are so hard to find and I know how much you love classic movies. I feel nervous about these because we don't have a way to play them, but you said there are some movies that are so hard to find or that some movies you'd love to have a copy of, so I only picked out the absolute must-haves, and I hope you enjoy them."

Possibly a good idea though not much I want to get rid of as much as organizing things in a way where everything has it's place rather than piles XD I'm sure there are a few things I could do a garage sale with tho XD

Mowed the Grass and attempted to string my fairy lights. Ok..... so I underestimated how difficult this is...shall have to rely on the kindness of my neighbours to give me a hand.

Not so much shopping this year...Giving my local friends a tree cutting in pretty terracotta pots, and sent my nephews a small gift. I am making sweeties on Sunday, I will fashion some festive packaging for them to give as impromptu gifts to anyone who drops in.

I am happy I was able to do a lot of decorating this year, including the Christmas tree. There have been years when I was so depressed I did well to put one ornament on the tree.

I work retail and I got my schedule for next week. I asked for the 26th and 27th off because last year my family came up at 4PM Christmas and I had to work the 26th and 27th. I didn’t enjoy Christmas at all because I was anxious about working the next day. So I decided Christmas 2017 to take the 26th and 27th off this year. So I got those days off. But I also got Christmas Eve off too. Which I thought was really nice. I’m glad I’ll be able to relax and spend time with my family and not have to stress about going to work.

My daughter is working Christmas Eve and Christmas. I'm having my second RF nerve block for my lower back Christmas Eve morning. I'm glad we got decorations and presents done when we did. Whether Christmas dinner will be made depends on how many ice packs there are in the freezer for my back.

I'm still looking forward to it, though.
