does anyone else think its interesting that schools are handing out assignments that the white house has conveniently supplied references towards?

I think nowhere means that the White House is only going to say "good" things about the President so you can't get a balanced picture like one would want in a school paper where students are supposedly learning to look at "both sides". You had some trouble getting information that wasn't positive about the President but was also considered "scholarly" or where the source wasn't just some yokel who had an axe to grind.

I think nowhere is implying that the White House has some hold on the schools, such that they'd assign such a project with only one "good" side like that because the information is hard to get from any source but the source it's about. It would be like reading your autobiography and taking it as "fact". And while Perna is perfect and knows all, I think she'll go now and wait for nowhere to say what nowhere meant :-)

thanks Perna, i believe you could probably say it better than i... well, a teacher hands out an assignment, it has certain requirements... and lo!, the white house has just the right information needed to complete the homework..

i dunno, maybe i look for conspiracies too much.. maybe its normal.. im sure other Presidents have done the same...

using the schools and formable young people to boost their agendas... hey, if the kids learn young to think like them, the future provides an entire generation of followers/voters...

this President has done many questionable things imo... but, this probably crosses the line and becomes a politicl discussion... so, hope no one responds... i had to cause Courtney asked..

nowhere - im totally with you on this one. seems a little weird to me that theyre having people look up good things about bush at the end of his presidency when the kids are prime age for voting...... hmmm..... then again im all into conspiracies too. and that no child left behind act does get a grip on the schools and their funding.

Yep I agree lol. Lets not go down this road please. Remember the intent of the thread was to help Court with her assignment. Now we can be supportive and find out that she's gonna get a good grade......

Thanks,
Rayna

hokay people you are all so great and again i say i appreciate your help- immensley buuuuuuuuuuuut i need to tell you that this assignement was assigned with the direstions to evaluate bush. There is no conspiracies there. I had to evaluate him. I had to look up things he did, good or bad, and evaluate his over all job as president. There is nothing weird there im in a US Honors History class and though i hated the assignment it wasnt unusual and only given to us because of voting coming up. That actually makes no sense considering that the constitution only allows for a president to serve two 4 year terms unless that president replaced a president less then 2 years into his presidency then it only allows for 1 more term. So, Bush is done for. He can not get re elected.. impossible. There is nothing political in that statment so dont yell at me please.

i know a president cant serve more than 2 4 year terms. just because bush's presidency is up doesnt mean there wont be republicans running next year. that was what i meant.

ok well i just thought i should point that out and also i feel as though whether a person is a democrat or republican shouldnt matter it should be what their ideas are that count. Look at what people have to say and base opinions of that. It is kind of like the whole labeling thing, jocks, preps, emos: we label people those things and we think we know what they think but we dont we just know what the label says about them. Again, nothing political in that statment.

Ok, well this is just a side note and i thought it was funny/ironic, mods can delete if they wish if its not on topic =]

so, me and my class were on a trip to DC, and our hotel was right across from the dept of education building. now, the dept of ed. building has these huge banners i guess, that read clearly "NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND". we had 2 coach buses to take us around and stuff...so one morning we were leaving the hotel to check out some sites, and there was this guy who was really late, and we actually started leaving without him. so, i turn around, and see this kid sprinting to catch-up with the bus, right in front of the "NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND" sign. we literally left a child behind, right infront of the sign.

just thought that was kinda funny =]

KK, i hope all went well with your essay, long time no speak, btw.

lol mel thats hilarious.

on my class trip to DC we were staying in these awful hotels and there were prostitutes right outside the hotel, it was so bad. Our school was to cheap to consider our safty! Also there were stains in the bed sheets and bugs in the shower and the free breakfast eggs were green...

Southwest Washington is not one of your better "neighborhoods" unless you can afford to stay at L'Enfant Plaza. http://www.lenfantplazahotel.com/ It's sad but most of "downtown" Washington is dead at night so no one "lives" there; people come in from the Maryland and Virginia suburbs to work or from Uptown Northwest (where I lived for 13 years :-) and the only people there at night, near the "center" of the City are not good company!

The good hotels are really good and the rest are like your experience Court Knee. I was on a University trip staying at a "good" hotel on Thomas Circle just this past April http://www.washingtonplazahotel.com/ and wouldn't go out alone at night there; "bad" neighborhoods within a couple blocks. It started getting that way in the 1950's-60's and gets worse each year. My stepmother was born and raised in Washington, right downtown (she was born in 1915 :-) and listening to her stories, and knowing the history of the City, it's really a shame; her stories and what's happening now aren't even remotely the same city :-(

Right...and we won't talk about all the Presidents who were impeached, or cheated on their wives, or stole or any of that, because...why? Oh, yeah, this is just a "research" thread on President Bush. Nor will we discuss the antics of Parliament. President Bush President Bush I think the research and paper is probably over now?
