I hope that some of the improvements to the environment will stick. I certainly don't believe all of them will, but when people experience how much more pleasant it is to have clean water and clearer air, and maybe just more space in general, that they will be motivated to make certain changes in their lifestyle.

Skeezyks is absolutely right folks. There's an old saying: "The more things change the more they stay the same." On 9/11 a lot of people were predicting drastic changes for this country and the way we lived. Virtually none of what people imagined would happen actually happened. Sorry Mountaindewed, your brother-in-law is wrong. The Spanish Flu was deadly. If life before and after it had been markedly different like people think it will be after the Corona virus, we would have read about it in school.

The human race collectively has an incredibly short memory. Five years from now we'll all be telling each other "hey, do you remember when...". We're creatures of habit and collectively those habits are very hard to break. For some time after AIDS became known there were a number of people who still thought of it as a disease that only affected the LGBT community and wouldn't take the proper precautions.

Will there be some changes? Definitely. Will they affect our daily lives? Maybe a few but it will mostly be minor. Covid-19 will largely be something your grandchildren come across on the internet.

By the way, the buffets in the 80s and 90s didn't close for health reasons. If things had been that bad they never would have been allowed to open in the first place. Americans simply stopped going to them.

Maybe he is wrong because this stuff is ****ing scary. I was 8 when 9/11 happened and I was too young to comprehend much of anything.

I was just talking to my mom now and we were discussing what actually has changed so far. Masks and social distancing basically. And tele health for a lot of things. Nothing drastic though.

This salad buffet restaurant I liked has closed (probably permanently). I think maybe handshakes will go away, and people will be allowed to work from home more. It saves the company money on office space too.

I was thinking more along the lines of your second sentence. When 9/11 happened he was probably old enough to really see things that he couldn't quite see when he was younger. During the Bicentennial in 1976 (I was 8) the world was a great place where nothing bad really happened. When the Iranians took the embassy workers hostage in 1979 the world the world was a much different place. It was the same world but I had learned to be aware of so much more.

Of course being front and center for so long the media really highlighted all the bad things in 1979 so I was even more aware of them then I probably would have been otherwise. The same thing happened for a while after 9/11 so your brother-in-law might not even really be aware that helped him see things differently.

It's kind of hard to say, honestly. I am looking forward to a post-coronavirus world, that's for sure. I don't know what it will look like. But honestly I am, and I know most people are, sick and tired of the reality right now.

I think the internet will continue to dominate our lives, but only if we allow it to. (Not a bad thing if we do, just to say that we should be intentional about its use).

I think people will focus more on humanity and human relationships. (Or at least I hope).

I think people will realize the value of self-care more.

I think people will be more intentional in their relationships. (Perhaps).

I guess these are just hopes of mine of how things will result for others and me.

I also hope that companies will value their employees more.
