I am 27 but I get treated like I am much younger then I am. I think it’s because of how I act. I am very shy and quiet and I don’t always know how to explain things when I am talking because of anxiety. I also have speech issues. Last therapy session my therapist told me that she knows that I’m not that young but that we could draw or just talk in the next session the way she does with her younger clients.
I also think I get treated younger because of how I look. My face is young and I dress in jeans and hoodies and I’ve even been told that my body shape is that of a younger persons. Do you get treated like the age you are? Do you think it’s based on how you look or act?

Lol....I am 67 & most women my age don't move 50lb bags of horse feed around or throw huge bales of hay into their truck to haul it up to the barn. Most women my age don't climb fences or mow acres of grass maintaining the mowing on 3 farms (mine included). Most women my age don't use a chain saw to cut up logs to clear areas of brush. Most women my age or maybe women in general don't repair & maintain their own lawn tractor or do auto repairs or even plumbing repairs.
I occassionally get the "you shouldn't do that" especially when I climb out on my roof to repair something.....but when you live alone & something needs done & either I don't have enough $$ to hire it done or the person hired never shows up....you learn to do it yourself. But I have always been more than capable of doing whatever I put my mind to throughout my life so when people realize I am quite capable they usually leave me alone to do whatever I do, I owing that when I need help, I will ask. Lol....& no, at my age....I am definitely not ready for a nursing or assisted living home like some are. People have always looked at my abilities, not my age in the way they treat me....including in my my computer engineering career after getting my degree. I was always capable of things much beyond my age. It was harder when I was younger but I have always disregarded how people treat me & in my independent personality I did whatever I was capable of no matter how anyone chose to treat me. Always looked younger than my age but acted older....now I look my age....oh well

no, and no a lot of people talk to me like I'm a baby (they use the classic well she's mentally ill, she can't understand big words) I act younger too, but that's because of the lack of a childhood. trying to make up for it in my later years, but I don't care what people think about that because I have my reasons some things I do are okay for my age (I can have a conversation, I can watch " big shows" on tv) as others call them, but some of myh actions (and al ot of my language), is a lot younger |

I never acted particularly childish, even as a child. However, I do still feel youngish, but as a younger adult than I am. I'm heading towards 50. As for looks, as long as my graying roots are colored (which has been overdue because of the pandemic) I can easily pass for late 30s. Maybe mid 30s. My face has a rather youthful look and my personality is upbeat and energetic, and I have a love of humor and being humorous. I love to flirt with men of all ages, even guys in their 20s. But I do know I'm not in my 20s, so I realize they get a kick out of my behavior. I have no wrinkles, except a slightly deep vertical line between my brows that I hide with my bangs. I have a couple age/liver spots on my face, but they are not unbecoming. My only physical part that looks my age is my neck, that I work to keep more youthful-looking. My teeth are a little worn down from bruxism, but the gap between my front teeth gives me a younger look, I think. I'm about 18 lbs overweight, but many think I look less, including me. That makes motivation to lose it, less.
In some cases I am treated younger than I am, because my husband is 13 years older than me. Obviously many of his friends are in their early 60s. A late 40s wife is therefore from a younger generation. This bothers me a bit, but I understand. The fact that I've been on disability also affects how some people treat me. Sad, but true. For example, I don't have a career to brag about anymore, though I used to. Also, my husband and I never had any children. You'd better believe that affects how people treat you, especially as the woman. There is, indeed, a certain negative view towards childless women, especially towards women who never wanted children. It might have been different if we desperately wanted children, but couldn't have them. Friends with children often fall away because there is a disconnect that forms, in some cases. I will say that I have lived a pretty full life even to the point where I am. I've traveled more and experienced more than many people my age. If considering that, I guess I could be looked at as older. It's just different, really. Again, it depends on what a person regards as a full life. If they think that never having children makes me seem less mature, then so be it. Last edited by Anonymous46341; Jul 04, 2020 at 09:43 AM. |

I'm 35 years old and people presume I'm in my mid 20's as I look young. Colleagues think I'm younger and clients think I'm younger.
I don't think anyone knows how to act their age you just go by everyone else. I think personally I act younger without meaning to do so. Especially cause I have no peers bar my Twin. My Twin on the other hand is roughly our age. She acts older than me. I feel like a fraud |

I get treated as an older lady--maybe because I often use a cane and stoop over. But I really look younger than my age--and I certainly act younger than my age!

When I was little, my parents and most others treated me like i was 35. Now, people treat me like I"m 8. I feel like I am maybe 17 or so.

Lol....I was just thinking more about this....
When I was younger I was always capable of doing things far beyond my age. Now that I am older, I still can do the things that much younger people can do because I am still in really good health & physical & mental shape. Lol....it reverses being a good thing to do things younger people do when you get older ![]()

I'm 24 but people treat me like I'm still a teen. It doesn't help I look young either or that because I am shy and can't talk to others without sweating and getting nervous people assume Im far younger than I am.

I dont know if I look my age or not, I will have to rely on others' opinions on that. But I freely admit I can be juvienile in a fun way and immature in a fun way and enjoy laughing and joking. A lot.

I must look much younger than I am. When I was in my 30s and had my first child, someone asked me if I'm at school and what it's like to be a young mom!!!! I must admit, it pisses me off although I should probably be flattered.

i think i’m behaving like a 20 year old. what i’m going through now at 68 i certainly should have done at 20 but i was dissociating and in denial then. i only changed several days ago. is the change acting my present age? i don’t know.
as for how i’m treated, i’m basically retired and have medicare and medicare i think treats people my age as annoyances who should just shut up and move on to another plane already. so maybe i am being treated my age. i prefer acting like 20 though and making the changes i’m making now. |

No. I do not act my age. I am 44 and I can be very child-like. I'm not even sure what a 44 year old should act like.
But unfortunately my looks never get me mistaken for a younger person. I guess I Look 44 or older. 😒 |

25 here. Physically I am look like my age (I wished younger). Most people treated me like I am underage, except people who REALLY know me well. Even my parents sometimes still thinking that I am going to school instead of work.
Do I act like my age? I don't know. Up until now, I still watching children cartoons, prefer kids meal, like toys, and have no interest to marry anyone nor look for a partner. But I like makeup, fashion, and pay the bills which make me act like people in my age. |

I definitely do not act my age. I am a serial goofball. I am not immature, I have maturity problems. There is a difference.

I don't know..... Some people tell me I look younger but I'm petite build so may be it. I work with a lot of younger people though and that makes me feel like the mom. I am a mom of an adult too and think that also makes me feel my age!

I'm going to say I look younger on some days and older, on others. So much depends on how I'm feeling, physically.
I look young in my face, but multiple health problems have really slowed me down, and I perceive people becoming impatient with me. (Young people have a lot to learn about what it's REALLY like as you age! It's definitely not for the faint of heart!) ----Please, be kind to older people. You never know what they're dealing with.---- When I actually was younger, almost 40, I was still getting asked for proof when I was purchasing alcohol. And yes, ha, I loved that!!! ![]() I was very active and fit when I was young. I think it's helped me maintain some strength into my late 50's and now, 60. So I don't feel as old, say, as I know many of my older relatives felt at this age. Keeping fingers crossed for the future....! (C'mon, individually tailored pharmaceuticals!!) |

At almost 65, some people think I'm younger. Now covered up the grey again after lockdown.
Sadly, prospective employers only look at the age not the person and ability. Not ready for beige clothes yet. Sorry to those who like beige, it doesn't do anything for me. Still like to be fashionable, but nothing too flashy/blingy. I like to have fun, but not at someone else's expense. As for how I'm treated, you'd think I was a brainless teenage with no thought for anything or anyone, but that's family for you! Really wish shop assistants wouldn't call me babe when I'm old enough to be their mother. Some days when I look in the mirror I'm happy with the reflection. Other days I walk away as the face staring at me is my mother/grandmother. Usually when I haven't had a good night's sleep.... ![]() |

Interestingly, since I went back to blonde people tell me I don’t look my age or look good for my age, especially some friends and family. Geez are they saying I looked old with purple?
