Do you have any gray hair? If so, at what age did you get your first? If your hair is totally gray, when did that happen? Is part of your body graying and another not?

I got maybe two or three gray hairs on my head as young as my 20s, but I didn't need to dye my hair until my mid-late 30s. Even now at almost 50, though I do need to dye it, I still have plenty of dark hairs. Just a little salt/pepper. A bit more pepper. I wish my leg hair went gray, but no luck there.

My husband's head has zero gray on it and he does not dye it. He was a blond in his youth, but it did get slightly darker as he aged. He's a little over 60 years old. He does have a lot of gray in his beard and on his chest.

My mom went almost completely gray on her head in her late 20s. My dad was mostly bald, but the head hair he had didn't start to gray until he was over 60. He still has some darker hairs on the bit he has and he's in his late 70s now.

A short article about why hair goes gray is at https://www.health.harvard.edu/blog/...-2017091812226

I used to be a redhead, but you wouldn't know it now. My hair is a mix of grey and blonde. The blonde comes from the sun. People who never saw my hair red think I'm a natural blonde. It's been this way for awhile now, but it still surprises me when someone calls me blonde.

Got my first grey hair when I was 32. Didn't start getting a lot of grey until my 60s.

My husband started going grey at 17. The men in his family either go grey or lose their hair early. He use to say he'd rather have a full head of grey hair tha no hair!

I used to be a brilliant auburn. About 50’s it went dull and started getting grey. It’s overall very dul now and the grays are wired. It’s awful. I need to die it but haven’t done anything to it since last March. Right now it’s very long, grey on top and around about the ears and lower it’s the auburn from the last die job.

My hair got lighter a couple years ago. I thought I was going gray at 26. Now it’s actually gotten a lot darker in the last year.

I'll be 60 in June, & didn't have any gray until about 10 years ago. It started slowly, but the pace has quickened in recent years. I'm about half & half now...I'd like to think I look distinguished (not "extinguished" ).

I have zero gray hair. None. It’s a bit weird because everyone in my family has gray hair relatively young. I am 55. Dishwasher blonde lol I used to be lighter blonde but it darkened a bit with age. At some point I’d turn gray as everyone does but I guess later than everyone else.

This post is quite topical for me right now. My warm-brown hair went prematurely grey/white when I was in my late 20's. Over the next many years I dyed it every color (all the natural colors and all the punk colors)- I truly mean every color, except black. I avoided black only because I knew it would look terrible with my skin tone.

For the past few years I had it a really nice and fun platinum blonde, which blended well with the white. Then I just got tired of the upkeep and dyed it my natural brown, a light brown. My stylist put some highlights in it and I was very pleased.

Then of course, I got white roots. Yuck. Last week I saw my stylist and was discussing with her how to proceed. I've decided to go with low-lights (dark beige blonde) blended in with the white/grey. Just before reading this post I made the appointment!

In the event any women are feeling self-conscious about graying prematurely, I've always found "silver foxes" to be especially sexy (just one man's opinion). It speaks volumes about their sense of confidence & security. Don't tell my partner about this, though, because she colors her hair.

I am 38 and have not seen a single gray anywhere on my body. Which is good for the most part. But my hair is very dark (almost black) which means I can't dye it without first bleaching it. And I don't want to ruin my hair as it's already coarse and has split ends. When I go gray, I'm going to have fun coloring it.

I found my first gray well it was more silver hair at 16 and every great once in awhile another would show up. Since my hair is almost black I always expected for them to come early. I'm 44 and just now getting a couple silvers at my temple. Even though I notice it like a neon sign most people don't unless I point it out because it's just a couple.

Pretty sure I'm going silver instead of actual gray or white but who knows.

I think genetics have a lot to do with it because my mom is 66 and has next to no gray/silver/white hairs and her mom didn't really have any until she was late 60s early 70s. Once her heart started going bad though it seemed to spread like wildfire.

I would love going all white or silver. It’s the salt and pepper I can’t stand.

Yeah, it dulls the hair. If it were all white it would be brighter and I could put streaks of purple in my hair! It’s this salt and pepper that’s horrible

I just turned 50. I found my first grey at 36, but they've been advancing pretty slowly. It helps that I am a natural blond so they are really hidden. I also take after my dad and he greyed pretty late. Everyone always said I wouldn't keep my blond hair as an adult but I defied the predictions. Where I live now, the sun is so strong, it keeps my hair pretty naturally bleached out most of the year, so the greys hide even better. There's not a lot of color difference between the blond nad grey in the top layers. The under layers are slightly darker, so I can see a few. I hope it will keep me from resorting to dying it.

This is the weird thing. In mid- to late-2019, I had a very stressful work situation. Some additional grey hairs showed up during that time. I noticed several months later, when I was out of that stress, that I had some hairs that were blond close to the root but grey further down. It's like the grey was from the stress and once I was out of that situation they went back to their normal color. I read somewhere that it is rare but happens in some cases.

When I was 19 years old my hairdresser found two gray hairs hidden underneath my hair. She seemed shocked, but I wasn’t since my paternal grandmother had white hair at 26 years old. The pretty pure white hair and she dyed it for awhile and later went all white. Mine isn’t the all pure white hair and dye it, plus get highlights. Also inherited thick hair on maternal grandmother’s side of the family.

It is all gray now and too short to go to the hairdresser yet. I am all about low maintenance hair and before Covid, I just got my hair done every other month. Saw a video that suggested embracing the gray by getting some lowlights--by doing this, you can get away with just having this done a couple of times a year. This made sense for me because my hair is completely white on the sides so I would like the gray to be more consistent rather than patchy like Cruella Deville (though mine is a much lighter gray).

I have an appt. on Friday and am hoping for lowlights to blend my silver. But then again, I guess highlights would have the same purpose. *sigh* I get so weary of trying to figure out having grey hair and what to do with it!

Indeed I started turning a dull shade of grey about 4 years ago. I'm 44 now.

I started graying in my 40's. I died it most of the time. Now I'm more gray than dark. I went for the longest time just natural. But I look 10 years younger when I die my hair. So I've been dying it a deep reddish color with purple highlights.

I first started going grey in my teens .... I had a patch underneath in the back that was grey by 20. I'm not 58 and pretty grey. I usually dye it black (natural colour is brown) but I haven't done it in a year because I figured why waste my money when I never go out anyway? Now that I have to go out more for medical stuff, I'm going to colour it again.
