It's interesting how dreams are the messages our subconscious gives us that we can actually explain and remember. I can't interpret the meanings though...is there anybody here who can?

It takes someone with understanding to help others interpret their dreams I guess. But I believe that each person who has the dream carries at least part of the meaning of their own dream.

The brain uses dreams to help work on issues while we sleep, imo.

I am pretty good at interpreting my own dreams. Dreams are very symbolic but the symbols are not necessarily universal. An apple in one person's dream can symbolize something completely different from an apple in another person's dream. Just try to be open to listening to your unconscious and what it has to tell you, and the meanings will emerge. If you have a therapist, you can work through some dreams with him/her and learn some good skills. My therapist uses the Gestalt dreamwork approach and I have learned a lot from this. One question he often will ask me about a dream is where the energy of the dream lies. This helps us identify the most important part of the dream and the "main message."

Because dreams are often a topic of discussion in one's psychotherapy sessions, they are also frequently discussed in the psychotherapy forum here on PC. So you may get some good answers if you post your question there.

I have never really tried, however I know there are a ton of books, even websites out there that explain what different items that show up in your dreams mean. Maybe just try a quick internet search for dream interpretation.

I found this to be a very good book on the subject.

Richard Wilkerson's class and e-mail dream groups are very interesting, I did that when I was first learning about dreams.

I dream all the time and have become pretty good at interpreting them. But sometimes I get stumped. There are some good websites that will help interpret different items in your dream.

The other night I dreamt I was smoking cigarettes again. Now, I gave up smoking 20 years ago and have never had another cigarette even though there are times I want to. In my dream, my need to smoke was insatiable. I couldn't smoke them fast enough. I learned that the smoke represents my wanting to hide - which would be true.

Dreams can tell us so much, things we may not realize.
