Can someone explain me why this Johnny Depp vs Amber Heard court case has gone so viral?

I love Johnny Depp, but this has just gone way over my head. Why do we care? Why is this our business? Why is this all over Facebook and social media? I'm just so lost on all of this...???

I'm not sure myself. I haven't heard about it to be honest. Once the Ukraine war started and then especially when Roe Vs Wade happened I just shut myself out from the news and basically the outside word. I just recently learned about the convict and the prison guard and the dire baby formula shortage. Hell I still don't even know if Kim Kardashian is dating is Pete Davidson.

I haven't followed it that closely, but all the comments just being so vile towards Amber Heard - whether she's being honest or lying - does she have a personality disorder or something else - I find it very disturbing. So many perfectly willing to judge her because they love Johnny, and I always say believe women, it's so uncommon that a woman would actually lie about this kind of abuse, and to this extent. But I don't know what the truth is... I suspect, as usual, it's somewhere in the middle.

It's viral because it's Johnny Depp and the world loves him. I agree with you, this should not be publicized.

I guess, what I want to say is they both can be true. Johnny could have been bad to her and she could have mental disorders. One doesn't preclude the other. And my problem is the world wants it to be black and white. I grew up with domestic violence. My dad has NPD, my mom BPD. They both did bad stuff, and to each other. They both were hurt by each other. It doesn't have to be one or the other.

Anyways, I understand. I hate seeing it everywhere. I hate that it's someone's private argument. I hate that it's overly simplified to be all good or all bad. I hate that none of us will ever know what really happened but lots of people want to play like they can know, with no compassion or empathy at all.

The reason its public may be because he is suing her for an article she had published in the Washington Post, which he says cost him lost wages. So hes basically suing her for slander?

For some people it's fascinating to see the travails of their own lives played out by the rich and admired.

Basically, though, it makes the media companies lots of money via clicked advertising, etc. Otherwise they wouldn't bother.

Celebrities always have their stuff public. It’s just a nature of it. Media makes money out of it and so do the celebrities, most of the time.

They way I see it is if I don’t care, I am not following them. I don’t care about these two. I don’t even know what happened. Of course if someone is abused, it’s terrible. But we just don’t know

Celebrities and their personal, private matters, are often publicized. I think it's a combination of the celebrity seeking a certain amount of attention and those who can make money from publicizing such things.

There is no such thing as bad publicity and there's money to be made. As long as there is someone willing to follow along and spend money, there will be people profiting from selling celebrity dirt.

Similar. I listen to bbc world and sometimes npr. BBC covers enough important stuff for me. My husband reads a lot of news on the internet so he tells me some things that I maybe missed. We don’t watch news on tv.

I hadn’t heard about it. Until someone here mentioned it. It’s not on broadcast news and I don’t watch those entertainment news dramas. MSF is the only social networking I do, so no fb, or other fake news or entertainment news.

It’s being reported in the serious press over here so I haven’t been able to avoid it.

I feel very uneasy with the whole case particularly the portrayal of her supposed diagnoses, I feel it will further stigmatise others with same diagnosis.

Personally I think it’s 6 of one and half a dozen of the other between them.

I don't have an answer. I personally think its pretty weird that so many people are getting so invested in this sort of stuff. I wish people would get this invested in their own personal growth.


From what I've read, they were both abusive and there is hurt on both sides. I think it would be good if they both got help and stayed away from each other.


Depp's "team" / "psychologist" labeling Amber Heard with a mental health diagnosis is very inappropriate imo. They are going about it the wrong way and creating more stigma against mental illness / mental health issues. This is also mental health awareness month. What insensitive and selfish timing. It is insensitive, selfish, and ignorant all around.

A online friend of mine follows this story, the only things I have read about it are what she emailed me (not in links), i havent followed this story, I think whatever the truth is, it will eventually come out.

Maybe there might be a plot twist - plot twist could be that he did that and twisted it

idk though and tbh i dont follow the story as i said and i personally dont really care about celebrities, i just dont find them interesting

the bit that gets to me about this story is borderline personality disorder accusations getting thrown around like confetti (according to online friend of mine), reason this gets to me is its something i got disagnosed with myself

For people who like soap operas.....not a trial that should have been televised though what little I saw that kept coming up in my FB feed, IMO, they are both so dang dysfunctional I wonder how they survive in the real world....drugs or drug induced mental illness, they both have serious issues that need to be treated. Both act like immature little twits playing at trying to have a relationship when neither have a clue. This all came out because of a defamation suit....they should have just stuck with the facts regarding the defamation issue rather than airing their stinking dirty laundry in public.

It's important because it's a defamation lawsuit.

If a man is allowed to sue a woman who claims she suffered domestic violence with him but has no proof, then women who have no proof of the violence committed against them would have to fear being sued if they spoke up against it without having proof.
