i havent been riding since before covid
the stables i used to go to, are currently still open but it sounds like they are struggling to stay open cause of the covid situation i found another stables but its further away, but it costs a little bit less than what the stables i used to, charge, cause they had to put their prices up (stable i went to i mean) as things are at the moment, i can maybe think about going back once a month to have riding lessons but that would be my limit would once a month be enough? And also, which stable would be best to go to/go back to? The further away one looks beautiful, but i dont know how easy it would be to get to, the closer stable as i said has put prices up but i know how to get there idk |

My daughter used to do horse back riding, she went to riding school weekly. I think monthly is just fine. If you like it, any amount of time is a good idea. I can’t advice on which school to go to but in general the one closer by is a better option.

If you are just doing riding lessons for fun & to learn a little bit, then once a month is fine. It is hard to put what you learn into practice without riding in-between lessons. I took equitation classes for 2 years in college. The class was weekly but also just went out to a local stable & rented horses for just trail riding about once a month for a change of pace. Didn't ride for years until I retired & decided to take english dressage lessons & show when possible. Bought my horse, then rode almost every day because it took that much practice between lessons to actually get the feel of what I was supposed to do.....but that is a whole different level of riding than just for fun (though it was fun too, but it was also work) Enjoy trail riding with friends who had extra horses that needed riding. When I got my horse finally to my farm, she was sick so much I never rode here here. I love riding so even once a month lessons to enjoy riding is a really good thing to do. Where really depends on your budget & then, if you relate to the person giving the lesson. Maybe go & observe at the stable you don't know a few times & see what it is like before committing to one or the other. Horses are wonderful. I miss my mare so much

It will just be for fun, I won't be doing competitions
I thought best get lessons so I know how to control a horse before doing anything like trail riding |

Willowtigger, I used to teach people to ride. If you can only take one lesson a month go for it. Once a month is better than not at all. As others pointed out, it will take longer, but better than nothing.
Some points to consider when choosing where to go. Some instructors don't want to accept students who are not planning to show. Personally, I was willing to teach anyone. I appreciate that not everyone wants to compete. I appreciated that some just wanted to enjoy being around horses. Check out the teaching style of the instructor of the other barn. Make sure their style and your personality are a good fit. I can't tell you which barn/instructor to pick, but I would suggest you go with the place you are most comfortable with. Welcome to the horse world. It can be a wonderful place! |

Definitely wise. & lessons are good because there is always some new tip they can teach you in each lesson. I have helped with 4-H & trail riding here & the kids that had never ridden or had lessons were the ones we had to watch the closest cause just giving a few tips before someone gets on a horse & rides off on a trail is is dangerous for the person & the horse. Lessons are good.
