This video has left an impression on me:
How did these three whales communicate this plan to each other? These whales are highly intelligent. It is evident in the video.

Thanks for all the replies. The humpbacks due appear to be synchronized swimmers.
The whales reminded me of kids lining up to race each other. As I watched the video I wondered how they communicated to each other. Probably through sounds they make in their respiratory system? Could they have a language? I have seen humpback whales in the Gulf of St Lawrence many times when I was a child, but never up close.
