I'm not talking your three little pigs, hansel and grettle, snow white, etc, share with me some good kids stories that you know that I probably don't
(I'm going to use your suggestions to buy the books and read to myself when I'm anxious or struggling)) |

Black beauty was my favorite book in grade school. I also adored Misty and I think the red pony. Oh, Hans Brinker, the silver skates. Heidi.

I liked the 'young readers' version' of Charles Kingsley's "The Water Babies".
It took me away and gave me hope. |

The Dr Doolittle books were a great escape. There were many adventures, my favorite was traveling under the sea in the snail and to the moon.

I guess it depends on the reading age you’d prefer…
For younger age I’d suggest anything by Shirley Hughes, especially the Alfie books. The illustrations are so charming and detailed. A little older and Roald Dahl is fun, especially Danny Champion of the World. The Lemony Snicket Unfortunate Series of events is a great series, full of quirkiness and mystery. And of course any Harry Potter is a riveting read. |

The Laura Ingalls Wilder books. The Anne of Green Gables series by LM Montgomery. Heidi by Johanna Spyri as suggested above (I'm reading it now because I can't read adult books at the moment because of depression).

Theres a book version of Jumanji. It was written a few years before the 1995 movie. I was listening to it the other night. I've read the book and the pictures are really cool.

Thinking about books I read to DD, but that I also enjoyed:
The Diary of a Wimpy Kid series are fun, fast reads. Younger kids books that come to mind are the Junie B. Jones books (I love Junie!), Pinkalicious, and if you like cats, SkippyJon Jones. (Those Joneses are unrelated ) |

Many years ago I was invited to a baby shower whereby we were asked to gift a childrens book that has special meaning to us, I remember I chose Dear Zoo because our son loved to predict the animal on each page. |
