What's got you up tonight? I was taken off my sleeping meds a couple of weeks ago and haven't had a decent nights sleep since. I see my pdoc tomorrow and will be asking for something.

What about you? Why are you up?

I'm nocturnal. I need quiet time to myself and I don't get tired until at least 2 a.m., but then I don't feel like getting up in the morning either. I think I can get work done at night, but I'm not. Just working on some therapy homework, but it takes me way longer than it should. Drinking my SJW tea (I add some sleepy herbs too, and eventually it will work but I still haven't finished drinking it yet. Also, I think I'm avoiding facing another tomorrow. They are scary, especially when I didn't get my work done.

Same here, I'm also a nocturnal person. My average sleeping time is from 0200 AM - 0700 AM on weekdays.

Since I still have classes, school stuff keep me occupied. But during times when I'm not at school, well, I tend to think about a lot of things. I overthink too much. And the fact that I haven't coped with my dilemma yet, I'm still depressed. I noticed when I'm depressed, I can't sleep much OR I sleep all day.

My sleeping hours added up to 20 last week until i got back to my sleeping pills.the day before yesterday i skipped the pill and skipped the sleep as a result. i hate those hours when the sky starts to get brighter.

Night Terrors have me awake lately. Once I have one I'm up for the rest of the night. Then it's a couple of days before I even try to get some sleep again. It's a fear of even laying down.

It sounds like we're all sleep deprived! I've went years on very little sleep! Now ambien is my best friend!

I'd lay in bed and my mind would race thinking and thinking! It would never rest!

No sleep will cause depression and more anxiety!

Pain has been keeping me awake. I get between 3-5 hours of sleep when I'm lucking this last five weeks. This post was actually written right before I went to bed.

I was blessed in that last night I slept six hours. Insomniacs Unite!

I'm sorry for those who are having difficulty. It's a different kind of miserable, isn't it? Insomniacs Unite!

Hoping the best for all.

Insomnia is a pretty significant mental health concern, and one that is hard to treat. It's always been a problem for me. I cope by not going to bed when I'm not tired so that I don't lie there and get frustrated all night. Insomnia is one of the major concerns with more than half of my clients too. There is a connection between circadian rhythm and serotonin and depression, and that connection is hard to break. Interventions that have to do with sleep cycles can help with depression and bipolar disorder (light therapy and dark therapy and wake therapy). Linehan mentions persistent sleep problems in her book about DBT. Apparently it is a common problem for people with BPD. Sleep is a very serious subject.

I'm awake because I always am during the night. It's 2.10am. I get scared at night and I guess that's why I wake up, and also because i've got stuck in the routine. Only some meds help, which have all been taken away from me because I abused them last year. I hate being awake and alone at night.

I'm also nocturnal. I stay up most nights until - well - usually all night, then I am a zombie all day - doze in my chair. Don't know what causes it. Meds do not help. Tried Ambien, but it made me do crazy things at night. The others I tried just did not work at all.

I stay up constantly. I am not sure why but the night time is MY time. I don't have anyone really bothering me. Around this time, I can read random yet productive things on the internet. I don't like the heat outside, but I do like being up during the day because that's when a lot of life things happen. I have a VERY inconsistant sleeping pattern, so I am not too sure if you would call me an insomiac, or just never on a schedule.. lol I often forget to eat, and drink water. o.O I just get caught up with talking to myself, or reading things I find interesting. Personally, I like staying up late more than anything else.

I'm an Insomniac too!!
I stay up at night..I just feel more energized at night..probably because I work nights and I'm usually all rilled up after I get off work.]
I have a hate/love realtionship with nighttime though..either I like it or I am scared to death of it.
I mostly like it though..it gives me some me time to read or write.
I don't get alot of privacy during the day because the rest of my family is bustling around the house and love to just bust in my room at random times without knocking.
*sigh* I miss the lock I had on my door.
I also am not a big fan of sleeping..I always feel like I should be up doing things..plus I don't like dreaming.
I wish I had a laptop though so I could surf the internet at night in my room..the computer is here in my parents room..I would love to be able to get on here at night and chat or blog.

i am just 'non-structured' the last some odd years.

i don't use sleeping pills because i take enough medicine and that would be over-kill, but i do herbal things, like valerian root, chamomile tea, passion flower tea, warm milk and honey, or really fresh sleep-inducing herbal tea blends made by some serious tea masters i get from a certain herbal health shop.

most nights, when i have to go to bed earlier because of appointments the next morning, i take that hot mineral bath, spray bulgarian lavender lightly on linens, or on a kleenex tucked into a pillow or pj pocket, and with something positive and informative to read and my cup of tea, i will be turning out the light in a peaceful state within an hour.

(oh, and i don't take late night calls... and lately i just chat here if i want to clear my head some nights or feel lonesome- there are some pretty cool people around at night to share your thoughts with)

popping in a good movie, or catching something on cable usually makes late night relaxing, when most of the neighborhood is already asleep ... and sitting out back, checking out the stars is cool sometimes when it's pretty dark around here - and clear.

that's all good - if i'm not having anxiety attacks, sick, or fighting one of depressions features, lol.

i'm glad i'm a nightbird, it's how i got to meet all of you wonderful people.

peace and sweet dreams,
nightbird

During the school year, I get maybe 2-3 hours of sleep a night. I'm not sure if its forced or just happens. But I was cool with it, cuz I would take a great nap during the day.

Now, schools out, so NO napping. I am forcing myself to go to bed earlier, even if I'm not sleeping. I still get up pretty early, but do feel a bit better

Last night was the first night I had a real nights sleep. Boy did it feel good. Though I did wake up and have to go to the chiropracter...I slept wierd in my bed and woke up hurting. He got some good pops though and I'm back to normal. Hopefully tonight will be a repeat. Without the sleeping in a wierd position. LOL

I've always preferred to work night shift, I'm a night owl. But days without sleep are dangerous. Minor things become major.
