So, my parents are reducing my rent at home right now so I will go see a therapist, which I think is a good idea. I think it is part of the reason why I'm having a difficult time getting a full time job. I know I need to save money to go, but I am debating another purchase I would like. I've been thinking for awhile now about purchasing a pair of roller skates because I really like to do that, and it is much more fun than regular exercise. I found some at Modell's, and they were only $40. I don't know, is it a stupid idea to want to purchase them? Should I not because I need to pay for therapy and possibly medications? It wouldn't be such an expense if I had insurance. But I figure, I can go roller skating in maybe the park or just on my driveway or the basement when the weather is bad. Also, I look at $40 paying itself off if I keep using the roller skates. I also do not have to worry about outgrowing them either, as my feet have stopped growing.

well it is good exercise and could be good for you mentally. but if you need meds then I think you should spend the money for that. prioritize a bit

I say spend the $40.00. You may not initially get meds and regular exercise my help you not to have some meds. No tellin' I say worst case scenario you have to take them back?

Just make sure if you buy them - you use them!!!!!!!!

Since your parents are reducing the rent for you to go to therapy I think the least you can do is to ask their opinion on whether to buy them or not, otherwise they may see it as you just squandering while they are going without.

Thanks for your input everyone. I'm thinking of maybe seeing a therapist first before deciding to do anything. It's just a difficult situation right now. In a way, I feel like it is my money, and I'm over 18, so my parents can't tell me what to do, but I also don't want to end up feeling guilty about whatever I end up doing.

I won't jump in on your rationalization for the skates. However, you said your parents reduced your rent so you could afford a therapist, and that is what you need to do. It sounds like you and your folks have agreed you need to see a therapist, and to help yourself and honor your parents, that's what the "right" answer is, imo.

There's nothing wrong with saving a little money each week until you have enough to buy those skates. Things planned and waited for are much more fun!

I agree with Sky! There are many ways one can excercise without using roller skates...even though they may be more fun, at this time the practical thing to do is use the money for what you agreed to use it for with your parents and keep to your usual excercise routine until you can save the money for the skates! you will feel better knowing you are being responsible....I guarantee it!

That is an excellent idea.
