I am to heavily medicated, my body can't take what I was on ten years ago as a result I cannot wake up in the mornings. I struggle to wake up at 1:00 in the afternoon. I can't live like this anymore, I can't get to groups mental health appointments. If there was a fire in the am I don't think I could even get up out of bed! Help Suggestions?

Hello Fedor: I've always been sensitive to medications when I've been on them. (I no longer am.) So I can sympathize with what you are experiencing. I'm sorry there's not much of anything I can suggest here though other than to talk this over with your prescribing physician & work out a plan to reduce the med's you're taking. The passage of 10 years certainly does have an impact on a person's tolerance level. Perhaps it's time to try reducing your med levels, or to try some other med's.

If for some reason your doctor is reluctant, you'll just have to be adamant. The bottom line is you, or someone, is paying him / her to help you & you have the right to be the final arbiter of what is & isn't done to & for you. At least that is my perspective & it's the way I approach my dealings with my own mental health professionals. I wish you well...

Seroquel is very sedating. At least, that's been my experience of it. There are times when Seroquel made me feel like I have the flu...that extremely fatigued, body-sick feeling. I have found it to be very addictive and not easy to go off of. Maybe you could go from 300 mg down to 200 mg for a couple of weeks, then go down to 150 mg?
Thanks for this!

Yes I have been having a bit of a difficult time at night not being able to sleep because your right it's very sedating I am taking only one 300 mg pill before bed. When I was in hospital I was on six hundred mg and they managed to cut me back to three hundred mg. If I bite my 300 mg pill in half that's 150mg. Otherwise I will have to do it with the doctor. Thanks for your suggestion, much appreciated!

Yeah cutting your dosage in half should cause some insomnia initially. I had to slowly reduce my risperidone from 3mg to.75mg over several months to avoid insomnia.

Please talk with your pdoc about reducing the amount of Seroquel. Doing it slowly is a good idea allowing your brain to adjust and making sure that you are able to stay well.

Pill cutters are a great idea for many medications.

Recently my pharmacy changed the generic brand of Seroquel that I was taking. The previous pill was scored and still needed the pill cutter to break it. When the pill was changed it was not scored. The pill cutter ended up crushing the pill so it was hard to get an accurate dose.

Long story short - you may find it easier adjusting the dose (with a pill cutter) when the Seroquel is scored.

I remember my own experiences with seroquel, and the total exhaustion was something I really struggled with. Ultimately, your medication is supposed to help, not hinder, and if it's making life more difficult for you then it's probably a good idea to book in an appointment and talk about options.

You could try a lower dose, and if you don't like it, you can always go back to a higher dose or look into other options. There are plenty of options with medication, and it may simply be that your body isn't quite reacting the way it used to.

I am curious about quitting Seroquel cold turkey. My girlfriend was on 400mg a day and she quit cold turkey. How long will the withdrawal symptoms last ?
