My husband and I decided to tackle the room in our house that stores all the crap we never got around to going through when we moved here. There were bags of clothes in the big closet in that room and we were going through them seeing which ones we wanted to keep or give away or if needed, throw away. There was a big bag and I was the only one in the room. So I opened it and it was my mom's clothes she gave to me when she started losing weight from chemo. They still smelled like her. I just could'nt look at them. Ever scince then I have been sad. It's been 6 years. 6 years!!! I should'nt still be greiving like this.

My mom's parents died over 30 years ago and she still grieves for them. I believe if you were close to your parents that it can take a very long time to not feel so sad or that it may never go away. If you have a T I would suggest that you work on it if its bothering you, but grief is normal.

maybe it isn't so much still grieving but more missing her. my mom has been gone 16 yrs and just the other day I almost picked up the phone to call her. something I thought she would like to know about. I still get sad at times. there is no time limit on the grief. especially when you smell something that reminds you of them. brings it all right back.

Thunderbear,
I know exactly what you mean...it took us over 10years to clear out Moms clothes from her wardrobe ! I got great comfort from her familiar scent, it was reassuring. I think its a great compliment to her that she is still so alive in your mind....I think she would appreciate that bond will never be broken. Good luck to you. |
