This morning we received a call from my MIL in VA. Her BF's brother was killed this morning on his way to work. His truck wouldnt start so he decided to hop on his bike and head to MIL's BF house for a ride and was hit by a car. He was barely 50 years old. He had three children and the youngest was 18 and just enlisted in the service.

I met him only a few times but I knew that my MIL's BF, Jake shared a very strong bond. They hiked, fished and traveled together every chance they got. They were very close. I am very sorry for his family as I know it is the most difficult thing to deal with.

My concerns are now geared towards Jake, my MIL's boyfriend. He is an alcoholic. A very bad alcoholic and I am afraid this is going to send him deeper into the bottle. Despite his drinking problems, he is a great guy. Very caring and loving towards all of us and I know that his pain is unbearable right now. He drinks himself into a stooper nearly everynight as it is and this is just going to make things worse. I am afraid either he will hurt himself or someone else at this point. I left a message for my MIL to call me back tonight but so far I havent heard from her.

Please send prayers, if you want, to Jake and his family. They need it right now. This was such a sudden thing and I am afraid for him. Thank you very much for your prayers and support.

Hugs,

Jen

Thank you so much. I appreciate your prayers for the family at this very difficult time. I spoke with my mother in law today. Jake for the most part is holding it together as well as can be expected. They went and sat with the kids yesterday so she was unable to call me back last night. As far as what I have been told by her, he is hanging in there. Thank you again for your prayers.

Love,

Jen

Would he consider rehab? Seems like now would be a good time for an intervention....he would have help with his drinking, and his grieving.

I have always asked MIL if he would be willing to do something like that. Unfortunatley, he wouldnt.

It seems lately that will MIL selling her TH she is getting closer to moving out here with us. I am not quite sure that Jake is in those plans.

It seems that jake is hanging in there. MIL says he had been going to work and staying active in that sense. I sent him a condolence card the other day. I hope he finds to comfort and peace.
