I didn't really think to post about it when my grandparents died during the last year. It seems off that now I want to post about losing my animals, and they aren't even going to be lost forever. I guess nobody is really lost forever, but parting and letting go is always hard. For me, sending away the creatures I care about is not far removed from mourning for them. I won't have control. I can hope that they have good lives, even better than I have been able to provide for them, but I don't know, and I feel bad that I couldn't give them everything that I should have.

Tomorrow someone will come and pick up my goats and sheep and take them away. They should all have good homes. I can probably get some of them back after I move and get set up for them, that is if I get a house where I can have them, and right now it looks like we probably will, even if only because I can't let go of that possibility.

I have already spent days crying when I just tried to make myself consider giving that up. I don't think that I can do that. I'm not feeling it right now, but I probably will tomorrow. The most that I have ever cried in my life has been when I have given up (sold or given away) substantial parts of my flock or herd. I cry hysterically and can't stop every time. Whether it's for good reason or whether I did it mostly to hurt myself. So if I'm rather off tomorrow, this will be why.

I hope this is okay to post here

Rap

Being an animal lover and owned by them (for they own my heart) I feel for you. I wish I had some words to comfort you but do not, except please know you have many friends here that care and are here if you need to talk/vent or just a good old shoulder.
Take care now,
DE

Rapunzel, I can certainly identify with what you're feeling. I would have just rented an apartment or bought a condo if I hadn't had 4 lovely pets who are my family. Instead, I found a place where all are happy, a big fenced yard for the dog, and on a quiet street where the cats can go outside when they choose. There was no question in my mind of getting rid of them, since I had that option. I just hope you will be okay, and when you are resettled, can retrieve them if you choose to do so. I know how hard this is for you.
LOVE,
Patty

The sheep are all gone. I hope this is okay to post here We still have the llama here, and three goats. I'm okay so far. My daughter who has mainly taken care of the animals lately may have more trouble with it than I will. She seems okay at the moment too. Just quiet. It is sad not to have them here.

Thanks for replying. It helps. I'm less likely to feel bad for feeling bad knowing that someone can understand.

I do feel bad for you...Llamas are awesome. Why are you moving, if I may ask? Relocating is SO hard! I said it and I meant it that this last move I made was the "hardest thing I had ever done in my life!" I was even looking at teaching jobs in Alaska (I'm in WV), but then realized "What would I do with my pets who are my family and depend on me?!"
You must have some sort of farm or ranch to have so many wonderful animals. I hope you can relocate to a similar residence.
LOVE,
Patty

My husband changed jobs. He's been commuting 4 hours since July (he just goes up for the week and comes home on weekends). It seemed like a good thing at the time, but I don't want to leave where I am either. We have 2 1/2 acres here, and probably will be lucky to get half an acre there. I haven't lived in a city since I left home 18 years ago, but where we are going is city all around.

We've moved several times before and managed to take the animals, but people always ask why we don't just get rid of them and get new ones after we move - it would be so much easier. Well, maybe technically and financially, but not emotionally. The animals are part of the family. Our children have never not had these animals around.
