I still grieve over the many pets I've had and lost. I lost my first one when I was 10, she was 10, too. We grew up together. I don't remember if I cried at the time or not. So I understand how long grief can linger if not dealt with.
![]() ![]() There are many griefs I haven't dealt with either. So we have something in common. I thought I had gone through the grieving process over my mom's death but the pain has suddenly come back as though it just happened. Don't know what went wrong. Grief is something that needs to be dealt with but is hard to do completely. I hope you can go back and overcome some of yours.

Pets are part of the family. Nothing wrong with grieving over it even at this point. Far better than "stuffing it".

Hi, in a way it is really good that you've realised this. Not dealing with loss/facing loss, however painful, at the time doesn't necessarily mean that it just goes away, It can still be there in how you cope with things on a day-to-day basis or in how you handle the bigger things in your life.
Whatever that loss is, if it's significant to you then it MATTERS. For some people going through the grieving process may be easier, for some it might take longer, and for other people they may work their way through but down the line seemingly "smaller" things or similar situations may trigger that again. But the important thing is allowing yourself to recognise that and to acknowledge and feel the feelings that brings up. Different people will find comfort in different things though and it can be very personal. Don't hold back on thinking and talking about how it's effecting you though, that can be a big part of the healing process for some people and in coming to terms with what has happened. You don't have to carry your parents attitude with you though, I'd say that far from being weak in crying it's more a sign of strength in acknowledging and expressing how you're feeling and the importance that something/someone has in your life. Best wishes Alison |
