In his honor, a good friend of the family that grew up with has passed. I cannot attend the funeral as it is several states away and it bothers me not to be able to pay respects. He was an inspiration and mentor to me: in particular I appreciate how he encouraged me and those around him when they were struggling always willing to lend a helping hand, as a devoted husband, loved family man and rock of the family, savy business person, and all with a wicked sense of humor.

It is heart wrenching because his wife passed a year ago, whom I still miss as well, and he has been struggling ever since with her loss. His cancer returned in the past year and lost his battle. The only saving grace is that he passed in his sleep.

The curious part is that he passed on his wife's birthday; I hope they are having a party to celebrate it together now. May they both rest in peace together, and hope he knew how much his family and friends loved and adored him. We all mourn losing him. My heart and prayers are with his family.
