I read an article from Doc's news blog, Ever Wonder What a Visual or Auditory Hallucination Was Like? that reminded me of a fellow homeless person--someone I considered a great friend. We weren't especially close, but we thought well of each other and enjoyed company at times. His name was Dana. He had bipolar and hallucinated, hearing voices and things. It bothered him much more than he ever let on. I could tell. He would sometimes tell me things he wouldn't otherwise share. I have wanted to post in this forum for a long time. I learned in December that in October Dana was riding his bike in Georgia on his way to visit his mom in Florida when he was hit by a car and killed. We were all saddened and shocked by the news. But it was also Dana--it was no surprise that he would be traveling by bicycle such a long distance from Illinois to Florida. He rode amazing distances each day on his bike. He would sometimes ride 30 or more miles and back in one day to Waukegan to have new holes drilled in a bowling ball, which he would carry one or two of them in his backpack on his back. He loved bowling! He was part of a professional bowling league. Every time I see a bowling ball, I think of Dana. I wish I had taken a picture of him before he died. We weren't close, but I do miss him.
