Poss trigger suicide and death of loved one
I was just thinking this some may find interesting. Feel free to leave your thoughts. The reason we cannot go back in time (why we are in a universe without such known device, so far). Is that b/c if we could we would try to fix these sticking points in our history and relive the awful days over and over trying to make everything perfect. We would never heal or move on doomed to repeat the same experiences destined to happen. I could try to save my friend from killing himself but it may have happened anyways a different way at different points in time all leading to sadness. Having all these images in my head over and over where I can't save him. Growing old and dying trying to prevent his death. Sorry this got so dark there. So we move on one day at a time. Forced to live with our choices, mistakes, and dreams. We look to a better future b/c there is no changing the past. I used to hate this notion but maybe it's a safety feature that God or whatever higher power you believe set in place to protect us from ourselves. May you all find your happiness in the past, present, and future. ![]() |

I believe you are right about the reason we're not allowed to go back in time. No matter how many times we may try to fix something, we can't always get it perfect. Or perhaps changing the course of time for one person for the better would screw up the odds for another person? And then there's the danger of living forever in the past...

I would love to travel to the past knowing what I know now and use that knowledge to prevent myself from making really bad life altering decisions. Wouldn't any of you want to do the same?

We would, I'm making the assumption that there is destiny and it won't change anything in the end. But not everyone believes in that.

I believe that if we could go into the past and change it, then things would be different. If I could travel to the past and only alter my past without creating a paradox, then I would.

You know, I guess I never thought of it that way. I mean, in my mind, I would have loved to go back in time, and take my mom to the doctor before her cancer got so advanced there was nothing they could do... would I have saved her? Would they have gotten it all in time? I mean.... maybe she wouldn't have had cancer, but something else could have happened. She could have had another heart attack, which could have killed her instantly and we would have come home and seen her dead on the floor. I don't know if I would have been able to handle that anymore than I handled watching her die for 18 months. So... I guess, you are right, while it might have changed the "outcome" of the situation, destiny is destiny and maybe she was meant to go, so it wouldn't have changed anything in the end. I never thought about it this way until this post.
That was really hard to sit through and think about, but it really puts perspective on things. So you might change one thing, but if that person is destined to leave this earth, it could be a different way, and much more tragic than the first. Scary thought. In a way then, I am glad I could spend the time with her I did, and that she was able to go peacefully, and without pain. I couldn't imagine losing her tragically, so I guess I am glad it happened the way it all did.

I never thought of it like this but it definitely has me thinking.
I always tell myself that everything happens for a reason even if i can't see or understand that right now. I lost a friend at age 20 suddenly over a year ago and I still struggle with it, I just try to remind myself of this concept. Quote:
