When you lose someone like mother and father, the entire atmosphere changes. The sky looks different, other people act differently. Nothing is the same and it's not pleasant.Since I lost my father 10 yrs ago, I realize I haven't been living. Then when I lost my mother it was worse. It was like a nightmare scene. I think I died along with them cause nothing looks or feels like it did before. I'm definitely not living my life.

Kinda the opposite for me. When my father died, it stopped raining every day, but thunderstorms still loomed on the horizon, ready to strike at any random time. Since mother died, the sun shines every day.

It was like that for a bit after Mom died. But there was Dad to keep going for. The focus was getting him through the first year after her death. When Dad died 12 years later for about 6 months I didn't feel anchored. I felt like an adult orphan. My mom taught me to enjoy life to the fullest. Go when you get an invite. Life is for the living make the gearboxes day philosophy. I have really tried to do that.

Losing both parents changed my perspective in that ones own mortality comes into focus. Have to say that I wasn't close to either of my parents so I didn't miss them.

I was closer to my parents toward the end so their deaths threw me out of kilter with each one, my dad 5 years before my mom. I saw everything through a lens of regret, what I didn't ask, what I didn't say. I still am not 'over' it because I don't think it is something you get over. It changes you, or it did me. Things won't ever be the same.

I am sorry for your loss. Losing parents seems to be the most traumatic thing. They no longer will show me the next phase of life. This is it. The journey they led is over. Somehow I have to pick up the pieces. Thanks to support groups I am starting to get my life back. But I had to start doing things like exercise classes so I got out of the house and focus on new activities and people.
Everyone grieves differently but grieving the loss of parents is so difficult. ![]()
